Hello,

Since a few days I have a Fender Mustang II. I am very happy with it! I have 2 questions, because I want to know if my amp is right.

When I want to turn the amp off. I hear a cracky sound from the speaker. When I turn the master down and I turn the amp off you I don't hear the noise. I was wondering if this sound doesn't matter much or is it better to put the master down before turning of the amp?

My second question is about a crackling noise I hear when playing. It took a while to see where it came from but now I know. When I play the guitar (doesn't matter what preset) and I rub my pick guard (no metal) with my pink by accident you hear a crackling noise from the amp. Is there a problem with the amp or is my guitar responsible for this sound?

Best regards

Is there anyone who can help me with this? I have send an e-mail to the tech support but haven't received an answer yet.

First I thought it has to do with the grounding. But when I plug into a well grounded electric point the amp still makes this noises.

This one sounds like static electricity being generated when your hand rubs the plastic pick guard. That will happen if you live in a place with low humidity. The back of your pick guard and the pickup cavity itself is probably unshielded.

Take off you pick guard and look at the back and at the inside of the cavity. If there is no copper or aluminum foil there, you should get some sticky-back copper foil (available online) and cover the back of the pick guard and the inside of the cavity with it.

I had to do this with my Deluxe Nashville Power Tele. It came completely unshielded and in the winter (low humidity) as I played it was generating static electricity and making crackling noises through the amp.

Thank you very much for your answer! I think you are right! These days I will check the back of my pick guard. Do I have to ground the copper foil or do I just have to place it?

I tested my tube amp by rubbing my pick guard and it also makes this noise (less than the mustang but it does) I have been playing that tube amp for years and never noticed that!

Maybe you also have an answer to my first question. Do I always have to turn my master down. Or has the turning off noise also has to do with the pick guard?

You should ground the foil. There's lots of info on the internet about this.

I don't have a Mustang II, but my Mustang III makes no noise when I turn it off (it only makes annoying fizzy noises while I'm playing quiet jazz).

Try turning the amp on and off without the guitar plugged in to see if you still get the crackling sound. Try playing the guitar through the amp and then unplugging it from the amp before turning it off. You have to be a detective with these things and first eliminate everything that can be easily eliminated.

Thanks again! When I turn off my amp without my guitar but with the master open I hear a little "Plop" or "Click". Don't know if this is normal? If a little sound is normal then I think it is ok.

Hi,

My Telecaster suffered frm this. The quick cure was a Bounce dryer sheet. Rub the dryer sheet all over the plastic pickguard, crackling gone, hasn't come back yet.

Thanks for your tip! I will buy some of these dryer sheets tomorrow. Do I also have to rub the back of the pick guard? If it helps I just put a dryer sheet in my guitar bag and when it comes back I rub it again!

No, you shouldn't have to rub the back of the guard. I have had this problem with a couple of guitars. You may have to do it more than once, but Bounce on the front of the guard should do it.

Your amp shouldn't make a crackling/popping sound when you turn it on/off. I have an MIV and MIII and neither of them do. I also have a Vox VT50 and it started making a strange noise when I turned it on. It lasted about 2 more weeks and died. Fortunately, the Mustangs have a 5 year warranty.

This is really cool! The dryer sheets do work! I rubbed my pick guard and now I don't have the static noises anymore! Thank you a lot for the tip!

About the sound my speaker is making: When the master is at 1 the sound is so little you hardly hear anything. When it is around 5 you hear a very little sound when powering on, but 2 louder "plop's" when powering off. This is happening when no guitar is plugged in. So the powering off noise is bigger than the powering on noise.

I think I just have to turn the master to 1 before powering on and off but I was wondering if this is a technical problem
