Very bad hum on any amp with gain, I am forced to run the noise suppressor on max. I have not had this problem on any of my tube amps in the past except at silly gain levels.

I am running USA Special Strat, I haven't even plugged the Les Paul into this Amp yet but have to get it set for this Friday's gig so if it is normal just let me know.

Thanks in advance

I haven't had any hum issues with my MIM strat and a mustang III. Had the amp for a couple months now. The only issues I have had with hum are related to effects/models being set at high gain. Does it happen when the effects are turned off? Maybe try a different cord or plug the amp into a different location? Try the LP and see if it the problem persists.

I would say this is common for a Strat. But for me, I wouldn't say I get very bad hum, just regular Strat hum. So I use the noise gate to regulate it, no biggie.

Let us know how it sounds with the LP plugged in. If you still get very bad hum, there might be a cause for alarm.

I would say NOT normal. I was playing a cheap Squire thru my MIV all day today and no hum. I was on the neck pup, so if there was gonna be hum I would have heard it. Yeah, single coils hum, but that is more of an issue with tube amps. Never had an issue with either my MIV or MIII.

It might be the outlet you are plugged into or a cord. Try another outlet or two and some different cords. If it still hums I'd take it back.

All single coil pickups produce hum, execpt those new fangled "noisless" pickups. How bad the hum is will depend on the type of pickups, amount of shielding, quality of the electronics, etc, and of course what ever gear you have your guitar plugged into (amp and effects). Typically speaking, high gain and multiple effects will boost the output signal, making the hum more pronounced.

By the way, those American Specials have Texas Special Pickups if I'm not mistaken, which are wound a little hotter than your average single coil.

Another thing to try to see if its just normal strat hum... and this depends on if your middle p/u is reverse wound, which most are these days. Set the p/u switch to an in between postion, (neck/mid or bridge/mid). The hum should go away or at least be a lot less in those positions.

It is the Texas Special PUs, the Gibson was fine. The strat just doesn't like heavy gain patches.

Thanks
