I was playing around last night with my wah pedal on the old mustang and it sounded terrible with the high gain models, even the British 80's. I mean you could really tell you were going through a dsp. It also didnt sound too hot with the cleaner models either. I don't recall it being so clinical sounding before the latest firmware update, there was also horrible, and I mean horrible distortion.
I am open to suggestions and will give the combo a real working over tomorrow to see if i was just having a bad evening, but its not looking good for the wah with the mustang. may have to invest in a small valve amp (champion 600 or similar hehe) to get my tone.

Have you tried turning down the level on the Weeping Demon? It sounds like you're overdriving the input on the Mustang. Doing that sounds good on a valve amp and even some good analog SS amps but it sounds terrible on a DSP amp like the Mustang.

Thanks Orc,

not something I had considered. This thing is seems to be so sensitive to the input signal. I was wondering if it was to do with the signal shape off the pedal, but will experiment with the input level first off

Hey Colos,

I've got a Mustang 3 & 4 and I also use a Weeping Demon wah. I always run it before the amp, not in the effects loop and it sounds fine. I do agree with Orc though, you should always keep the input signals down otherwise pedals in the chain can tend to sound off.

Yeah. This is probably one of the least discussed weaknesses of modeling amps and digital audio devices in general. While professional grade audio equipment are typically designed with more headroom in their I/O, Modelers have to make do with somewhat less robust inputs and their A/D converters - especially at the effects loops. Digital just isn't as forgiving as analog and we users have to be fairly careful with incoming levels.

Mind you, that doesn't mean that analog devices don't have their input buggaboos. I had a Fender Blues Deluxe that hated having a volume pedal in the effects loop. It just sounded awful because of the fact that volume pedals are un-buffered and there's an impedance mismatch between the volume pedal and the effects loop. All I wanted was to be able to retain the amount of gain I'd set on the preamp while being able to control the overall volume. No dice. :(

Did you try a Low-Z volume pedal? I tried a High-Z pedal in the loop on my Mustang IV and no dice. I bought a Low-Z volume pedal (Boss FV-500L Stereo Volume Pedal) and I am in volume heaven. I don't lose the gain that I want when doing swells. I don't know if this will work for your tube amp, but it did the trick for my MIV.

Hi, JC.
I had that Blues Deluxe about 12 (maybe more) years ago and I probably wouldn't have known if they had Low-Z pedals back then.
