So, I currently have a Pod HD500. Fender tones sound awesome (as do all the other amps modeled) through a headset. Without a headset, I'm using a Tech 21 Power Engine. Results seem okay, but I'm not totally sold on that combination.

I was thinking of potentially selling the HD500/PE combination and going with a Mustang IV. Granted, I need to go try one out tomorrow. But I've been reading elsewhere that the Fender tones on the Mustang are superior to the HD500. Probably 90% of my time is spent playing either a Twin or Deluxe Reverb model, so most of the other amps are just for tooling around with now and then.

Who has tried the HD500 and the Mustang? What are your thoughts on Fender tone comparisons? I love the simplicity of a single grab-and-go option, plus the IV would be much louder than the PE.

Thanks.

Hi
I have been there and used to have the pod 500 and ran it through the pa when playing live.
Granted yes the Pod hd 500 sounded really good and was impressed whilst i had it but i wanted a amp so i could just tweek on stage and with more simplicity so was on the lookout for a good tube amp, but when i was told about the mustangs i decided to go and try one out for myself and when i heard what you can get out of these and the way they sounded i
bought one the mustang Iv and it sounds great at home and in the live situation and plenty of power, so i would go and try one out for yourself and let me know what you think?
here is a brilliant preset that i created with the mustang and i could not get a better sounding one from my pod hd 500.

The key is to try the mustang. Then if you like that then with 4cm you could use both the 500 and the mustang and the worst that it could sound is that of the mustang alone. Or with With HD effects in the loop! Pretty good if you ask me.
