So a long while ago I really wanted to mess around with my sister's Mac and Garageband but had no way to connect my guitar. One day I was at Guitar Center and saw this little convertor jack you plug your guitar cble into and it turns into a 1/8(?) jack to plug into computer. It didn't work at all and I got no sound through it. I gave up, it was only $2.
About a week later, I was at Target and saw this REALLY, EXTREMELY cheapo First Act recording kit for $40. It had a USB,1/4 cable and this recording software called Cakewalk Music Creator LE 5. I realize it is really cheap but it's all I could afford. So once again, I set it up but once again no sound even through the USB cable. Kind of a waste.
Well now I have a Mustang II and I was wondering if I can hook my guitar up to the Mustang, and the USB cable through that "FTSW" input to get sound. Would that work? Could it possibly damage my Mustang in any way?
Also is there anything I should be doing different? Thanks guys and gals!!

first of all,FTSW stands for foot switch.also you need to install the fender asio driver.next download ableton,it's 100 times the software garage band is.use the usb that came with the mustang to connect to the computer.only one problem...you need an interface to connect headphones because the mustang only works as an input.this should be enough for messing around, but don't think your going to be makein hits. you need mics and mixers an interfaces for that kind of stuff.

I just started to use a Mustang V for recording in my studio. I am using the headphones out straight into a Mackie 1620i mixer on two channels and that is linked by firewire into Propellerhead's Reason/Record.

I did a quick sound check, not engineered very well but here it is..

Here is one that I miked a Vibro Champ XD with the same setup for recording..
I was using the line out for one channel of the Vibro Champ and miked it with a MXL condensor mic on another channel..

I do not like using usb anything for recording, I have just not had good results.

I recommend the best firewire mixer you can get for your budget. The Mackie Onyx 820i is a good starter one if you are wanting good results. I have a friend that uses it with his iMac and Garage Band.

Studio monitors are a nice addition, but I find myself with headphones on most of the time, I am using a set of Audio-Technica ATH-M40fs. They have a flat, extended Frequency Response of 5 - 28,000 Hz, which is really good for mixing down.

A good website to learn the ins and outs is here http://www.tweakheadz.com/

I use Propellerhead's Reason/Record exclusively for my recording DAW and I have tried a lot of them..

Another word of advice, if you want to get serious, build a computer just for your recording and only load up the applications that you need for recording. Multi-core, 4gb's of ram or better, Veliciraptor boot and os drive, wd black 500gb drive for the recording drive and a good TI compatible firewire.

I only use my mac's for playback, because I feel that they make a better jukebox than a computer...

Hey Guys,

fenderflamestrat - You're using a Mac, correct? You won't need the ASIO driver, which is only for Windows. Mac's use Core Audio which is built in to the OS.

You can actually use the Mustang's USB out to record simply by setting the amp as the input device in Garageband and using you're computer's built in audio card for the output. That is a basic setup that will get you started. Once you get into recording a bit more, perhaps you could follow majorbytes excellent suggestions and get some dedicated recording gear.

Oops, forgot to mention that my sister took her MacBook to college with her so I'm currently using my family desktop. It runs Windows XP

EDIT: Also, where is the ASIO driver located at?
