I really enjoy seeing all the Mustang mods. Very kewl.

Could you add a spacer between the amp and legs at the pivot (e.g., one or two washers to get the right clearance), or does the attachment prevent something like that?

I'd thought about that but I didn't want the legs to flop about while not in use. Hmmm... I have an idea... I think that there was something I missed in the installation... more later when or if I figure it out. I'll post more pics too if I'm successful.

Man I love the corners they should be stock . . . they will be in mine as soon as I can afford them. I like the tilt back legs as well but I have a stand I put my amp on so I'm not sure whether I'll go that route . . . but I'm tempted. Nice job, by the way what did the up grade cost if you don't mind me asking.

Thanks, Roger.
It cost me about $60.00us with shipping. The tilt-back legs are kinda spendy @$40.00 for the set but they're really convenient so I figured I've spent more on worse things (haven't we all). I used to use a stand too until I got tired of hauling it around. It's just one less thing to remember and these days I'm always looking for ways to minimize the things I have to cart around.

I agree on it (the stand) being just one more thing to haul although I do like having the amp a little higher. I guess it's a toss up, but I guess it would be nice to not have to lug the stand.

Well, here's your chance to invent a new Mustang mod of adding a telescoping pole/tripod stand up its middle that can collapse entirely within the body (but not while playing of course) for storage and transport...

I like having the amp on the floor as it enhances the low end and tilting it back brings up the clarity and perceived volume up just right. When you have the amp up higher, I find that I tend to back off of the volume a bit too much and it sounds a bit thinner. When it's on the floor, it sounds fuller to me.

Hey Orcatraz,

You've really made this amp look classy and to be honest, if they came stock like this from Fender, I bet they would sell more units. (Brad/Loren maybe worth considering on the next generation of this line).

I think I'll get the corners on both my Mustangs. While I love the look of the legs and I do agree that combo amps seem to sound fuller on the floor and I to, am constantly looking at minimizing all of the junk I lug to a gig, I think I'll stick with my amp stand as you need to lean the amp back too far for the right projection from the floor and this makes seeing and operating the control panel too hard. My amp stand is raised fairly high with only a slight angle, which projects just right and I can still see and use the control panel.

Most of these amp stands have only short uprights at the back and because these amps are open back, you need extenders. What I did, was to use an old piece of round tube from a lighting stand and cut 2 pieces to the right length for my Mustang IV. These tubes are just the right diameter to slip over the existing uprights. Works a treat and cheap.

For all you guys and gals in Oz, it has been mentioned here about a small outfit called Evatco, check them out. I have used them many times. They stock all those little things you just can't get and at great prices. They are based just west of Brisbane and a very friendly and helpful.

Well, as they say, "in for a penny... in for a pound."

I just decided to go for it and pulled the MII apart again. This time I decided to pull out the speaker, mask the electronics and spray painted the inside of the cabinet a nice flat black. Even though you rarely saw it, it still kinda bugged me to see the bare MDF inside the amp whenever I was putting it away or loading it onto my truck. Actually, before that I decided to put the original back back on but I cut a nice rounded access hole in it. Of course having gotten into a completely and maybe stupidly anal mood, I decided to move the stickers with the amp's serial number and QC checklist out of the way of where the new hole was going to be.
Here's what it looks like now.

I also managed to get the bottom/back amp corners on too. I'm kind of a horder and keep little screws and connectors from electronics I pull apart and two little screws I'd saved came in really handy for the side of the amp corners where the tilt-back legs would go. They mount absolutely flush on the amp corner and allow the tilt-back legs to get by. PITA, I tried your idea of some extra washers on the tilt-back legs and it worked. Thanks for that idea!
Image

The back of the amp is recessed by about 1/4" and this posed a problem for the back amp corners - top and bottom. Here I used a couple of rubber feet as spacers to keep from bending the tangs of the amp corners too much.

Maybe I should start calling this little guy R2D2...

Hey Orcatraz,

I hope you not planning on mass producing the R2D2, I think Fender might take issue with this.

It's nice to see that someone can take a Hyundai and turn it into a Merc. I might have a crack at moding my IV further down the track when the 12 month warranty expires.

Man does that look nice! When my 5 year warranty goes off that will be one of the first things I do, along with the Cannabis Rex.

1. How did you get the labels off? That looks really professional! I love the closed in open back, very nice.

2. Did you just paint it, or did you put some vinyl on it?
