Originally, I built a wooden tilt-back stand for my MII but after a while decided that it was just one more thing to pack around - even though I designed it to fold relatively flat. Meh.

So, I went ahead and ordered a pair of 16" Fender tilt back legs and some chrome amp corners. Here's how it turned out and note that I couldn't put the amp corners on the lower back of the amp as they would have gotten in the way of the tilt-back legs. Looks kinda cool I think. Next, I might dig up the original back cover and cut a big access hole in it. It might look better than the wood pieces I used. Here are the pics.

With the new speaker and other mods you've now invested quite a bit in this amp, relative to it's original cost - looks like a pretty big vote of confidence in the fundamental quality of the amp and what it can do ? Or are you just having fun to see what you can sqeeze out of it ?

(It's a pity that amp corners - even plastic ones - don't come as standard, especially on the larger Mustangs that are more likely to be used for gigging)

How does the Patriot compare with the Stock Celestion, & was it a direct swap or did you have to drill holes or fit new bolts? (as I think the spacing size between Celestions & Eminence are different).

Yeah, I've put in about 75% of the cost of the amp and I've done it for both reasons that you mention. This amp has been dead reliable for me. The Graphite Tolex they've used on this amp is not very durable really and the corners are the first thing to get beat up so I just went for it. The tilt-back legs really help it project too. If you decide to install them, make absolutely sure that your measurements are spot on before you drill any holes or the amp will be wobbly when tilted back. The rounded edges of the amp make it a bit difficult to make precise measurements even with a carpenter's square.

Hi, Rich.
This is a Mustang II and did not come with a Celestion but a Fender Design speaker. I didn't have to drill any new holes - it was a direct swap. The difference between the Cannabis Rex and the stock speaker are night and day! This little guy sounds freakin' huge now and I've actually had to pull back on the Bass settings. It's not that the low end was overpowering the highs, they were still very audible but the low end was overpowering the room! It's a freakin' Mustang II fer crying out loud! I love it.

Hey Orcatraz,

Nice work man... :).... I'm not so sure about the arms... but am really tempted to put those corners on.... Not only do they protect the amp.. but they make the amp look better too... :)

Oddly enough.. you opened the back of your amp up... I have the Mustang 4 with the open back... I've put a 1 inch thick piece of foam in the back because the open back bothered the other musicians. ( small stage ).. I'm thinking of somehow closing it a bit without voiding the warranty... :)

Hi there - like the idea of the amp corners. I too agree that they should be on the amps as standard - after all, even the G-Dec 3/30 I also have, had them fitted as standard. Mustangs are more likely too appear in live "gigging" situations than G-Decs also.

Anyway, wouldn't mind getting some for my Mustang IV - can you please advise which ones you used - are they genuine Fender parts or "aftermarket" models? I would prefer them in matte black finish, so any info you can pass on would be much appreciated. Did you have to be careful also with the length of mounting screws?

I am located in Australia by the way, & there doesn't seem to be much available down here as far as much of this accessory stuff goes.

Thanks.

Hi, M4.
I cannot recommend the "arms", as you call them, enough and I'd bet they'd help your MIV too. I'm sure that part of the reason that your band-mates are bothered is because you're having to turn the amp up to hear it. This is because most of its sound is hitting your knees and your ears aren't at knee level. Tilting the amp up will aim the sound towards your head... where your ears are. You'll want to turn the amp down as it'll seem really loud because, well, it is. The other musicians won't be as bothered though.

They're actual Fender parts, Discophil but I've not seen them in black, much less matte black. The screws are about a half an inch long and the only thing I did to keep things really clean looking was to drill small and shallow pilot holes. This helps the screw go in as straight as possible.

Thanks for that.....just checked out ebay in the USA & they're seems to be plenty available from there with international shipping. Would prefer to get them somewhere in Oz if I could though - might give Fender Australia a ring on the phone or perhaps even the retailer where I purchased the amp.
The amp corners should be available in matte black finish I think as that's what the G-Dec3 has installed - could probably be same ones that I'm after.
Thanks for the tip on drilling pilot hole for screws as well - would hate to damage amp through my negligence or shoddy workmanship!
cheers,
phil.

you are probably right... sometimes.. I put a book placed just right under it to slant it enough....

Are the "arms" adjustable... meaning.. will they give you optional tilts... or just one.. ??

It's a one position tilt system but, if you only like it tilted a little bit you'll have to find that balance and experiment where you'd like that little metal stopper to be. I'd suggest attaching the tilt-back legs on first and see what angle works for you then mark the spot to put the stopper. Remember though that some angles that are too shallow can be a bit less stable.

That looks great. I had forgotten about the tilt back legs. I have a Hot Rod Deluxe and it doesn't have the corners either. I might have to buy a set for it.
