The more time I spend on these forums and watching the available videos, the more interested I am in owning a Mustang III, IV, or G-DEC 3 30. Besides the obvious power and speaker differences, what are the electronic feature differences between the Mustangs and G-DEC 3s. One recent poster referred to the G-DECs as "GIMMICKS" and swore that the Mustang is the way to go.

I'm interested in a good practice amp that can also double for gigs, cause let's face it, most club venues don't require a large, loud amp, unless you just want to drown out all those that would rather talk to each other than listen to the band!

Although people have looked at the code for the presets for the two types of amp, and there are apparently some common elements, presets cannot be swapped between GDECs and Mustangs.

There have been attempts to 'translate' GDEC presets to Mustang settings, with mixed success - the amps are built, and sound, different.

The GDEC's store and play back their backing tracks on-amp, making them a more complete stand-alone practice solution if that is mainly what you want. With the Mustangs, the 'backing tracks' available for download are just ordinary wav or MP3 files, and they are not stored on, or played back through the amp.

The more 'serious' players here, especially those who are gigging regularly, seem to go with the Mustangs, especially the III, IV and V, rather than the GDECs which seem to appeal to/be pitched more at home playing and practice.

depetat, thanks for the information! All that was new to me; I've not read that any where else.

The Mustang III is very intriguing for $299, but I have to say, I've been really impressed with how good the stereo Mustang IVs sound (and I've only heard them on online videos!) even if they are $200 more than the III.

If you are looking at a Mustang IV then I think you are really looking at solid gigging capability, and a definite step above just home playing/practice (although I'm sure there are those who quite happily only play the IV, and even the V, at home).

I have a Mustang III, which sits in the middle of the range and kind of covers all those functions (although people here do also gig with Mustang II's, and no doubt with GDECs as well !)

Hey John,

The G-DEC's have onboard audio playback and and built in phrase sampler. The Mustangs do not. Also, the Presets are not in any way compatible with each other.
