It may be your p/ups and not the amp, particularly if the p/ups were never potted or if it's an older guitar and the potting has begun to 'erode'. High shrill uncontrollable feedback at low volumes is a classic symptom of p/ups that have gone microphonic (where the very fine p/up coil wiring has slackened and vibrates) and need potting. I'd suggest you try your guitar with another M5 (or other Mustang) and try another guitar through your M5 to try & determine if it's the guitar or your amp.

If it's the amp, try a factory reset (in case it's a software filepath corruption). If this doesn't help, then it needs to be exchanged/repaired under warranty.

If it's the guitar, although you can try re-potting yourself, i'd suggest that it's usually best to have the p/ups sent to a potting specialist. Potting involves soaking the coils in hot wax that, when hard, stops any loose wiring turns in the coil from vibrating which is what causes the horrid 'squeal' feeding back. It's not expensive to do - I had both my Les Paul Custom p/ups repotted by Pickup Wizard in the UK for £24 inc postage. If you're inexperienced & try potting yourself, there's a risk you might ruin the p/ups if the wax is too hot and/or if you get wax into bits you shouldn't!

Rich

Hey Rich,

Does a factory reset get rid of the issue you're experiencing.
