Main thing I like is the ability to put a guitar strap on them, sling them over your shoulder and walk around playing guitar...cool stuff...

Still don't get it. I'm well aware of the 'take it anywhere'/'cool' pitch and if Fender can shift them in viable numbers, good luck to them - I'm just not convinced that many people really do take their ELECTRIC guitars to the kinds of places that 'anywhere' implies.

Weaker in some key respects - watts, speaker size, fewer on-amp controls - than the already highly portable Mustang 1, and critically costs a third more without the ongoing battery costs.

True about the batt costs. I could see spending a premium if it had a Light weight rechargeable LiIon pack, instead of C cells. But there will always be a market for this type of portable amp. Here in SoCal, there are lots of outdoor areas, sans-power, where musicians like to play. I'm certain this is true of other areas as well. Great little amp, albeit overpriced when compared to the Mustang 1.

Keep in mind, though...these often get used as mini PA systems by street performers. You can run acoustics through them, play music, etc. I'm sure they will sell pretty well. Gotta be better than a Roland Microcube...

Nice mini amp,
any (satisfied) owner already here? ;)
I can't find out any information about approx. battery life, even inside of official manuals.

This new mustang amp is over priced for what you get compared to the mustang I, it should sell for the same street price as the mustang I (99.99) or even less in my opinion.

Value per dollar I think its a still a good deal. And anyone looking for a small, self powered, portable tone machine is going to be hard pressed to find a better deal elsewhere. But I agree on principle. It's a 7 watt amp with a 6.5 inch speaker. Why does it cost more than a Mustang I which is practically twice the amp?

Because the people who will buy it need it for its portability will pay that premium. Its not really competing with amps like the Mustang I, its competing with the portable group, like the Roland Micro Cube. I can't really dig up any speaker or wattage specs for the Micro Cube, but this Mustang Mini amp comes in at $25 less than the sticker price of the Micro Cube. So if Roland can charge that much more for a similar amp, there's no real reason Fender couldn't charge $100 for their portable offering.

For me battery power is essential. I play charity mini concerts near beach in Thailand, and there are no power outlets. For months I thought about ways I could make my Mustang I run on batteries with some sort of inverter etc.
I currently use a Roland Cube RX and a Cube street, using an ABY box. Nice amps, but if the mini sounds even 60% as good as the home version, I will be a happy camper.
The critics of the battery powered mini need to expand their minds and think beyond just their needs and wants. This will fill a need for some, such as myself. I for one am glad they are making it.
Now if I can just find it somewhere over here..... btw I paid $160 in Thailand for the Mustang I and didn't mind the premium price all that much!
