You know I find myself really liking the Champ. I don't know how close it is to the original but there is really something cool about it. Maybe the simplicity of the sound for my noobie ears appeals to me. The way it changes with guitar volume. I really like the way it sounds with the gain - even better than the high gain models.

Interesting that the majority (?) of players here seem to love these amps for their ability to 'model' the classic Fender (and other) tube amps of the past, and that perhaps some younger players who might not be familiar with the original versions of these classic amps are now discovering them through the Mustangs.

Not unexpected I guess given that the Mustangs are Fender amps, but makes you wonder a little why Fender fill up quite so many of the 100 preset slots on the bigger amps with wildly over-gained/overdriven stuff and try so hard to push the "high speed, amped up and loud" thing.

I guess they are trying to appeal to both markets of players, but the balance of posts on this forum would suggest that really isn't how people see the strength of these amps.

I have to tell you I do agree, I own a Mustang III. I was never a fan of modeling amps but I fell in love with this Mustang for the very reason you state . . . the ability to pull in all the clean fender amps of the past. Sure I tweak a little to match some oldies sounds but this amp is as close to perfect as I have found to allow a guy to have the best of both worlds. That is to own a stable of Fender amps from the past and still afford to play
