I just ordered a Mustang II wich I will be using primarilly with my Washburn HB35. I also have a '71 Gibson Hummingbird acoustic with a Fishman Infinity pickup and was wondering how the Mustang II would handle acoustic input. What would be the preferred settings on the amp for playing an acoustic?

Thanks for your help

This is a hip shot.

I have an MI and a MIII, not a II. Turn the volume down on your guitar and locate the amp settings that don't suggest full tilt shred,(unless you are REALLY CREATIVE!). Older amps that can be fairly clean if the GAIN is reduced - i.e. Twin, Bassman, or Bandmaster, etc. Then, face your acoustic AWAY from the speaker... and slowly turn the guitar volume up. When you start to sound like Ted Nugent, back it off a hair... or a wig.

These will not provide the perfection acoustic tones that amps designed for acoustics will give you. BUT... you should find something quite handy for anything this side of Segovia.

There may some additional FUSE downloads out there but I'm not that well versed yet. Perhaps someone else knows? If there isn't, that would be a smart one for someone to develop.

Peace out.

MJ

Hey montereyjack86

Thanks for the acoustic settings suggestions. I'll definitely give it a try as soon as my amp comes in. Should be next week sometimes. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Also great idea about trying to develop a FUSE preset for the acoustic, assuming there isn't one already out there.

I don't know if acoustic guitars require any special settings, or if the preset is just supposed to be clean (there are quite a few of those both online and you can make one yourself which is, imho, better). Must confess I do want to plug in my bro's electro-acoustic Takamine into my amp.. But I never seem to actually buy the batteries I need to put into the guitar.. I keep saying I oughta buy them and try it out, how it sounds (been saying that for over 2 months, if not 3), but I never actually do it.. Damn I'm pissed at my laziness sometimes :?

There are indeed a few presets in the Fuse online Mustang library that people have designed for acoustics, with varying results. Most seem to revolve around one of the 'clean' amps - typically the Twin - with pretty much all of the gain rolled off and then tweaking of the treble, middle and bass, maybe with some mild compression and reverb. More radically I did see an acoustic recommendation here that used the 57 deluxe model amp with everything turned to zero and no cabinet - I have tried it and it seems to work, producing a very uncoloured tone.

Certainly feedback is an issue to watch out for. I couldn't get my Mustang II up to anything like a volume usable in a band sitaution with my acoustic without provoking the squeals, but on my new Mustang III there seems to be much more headway for the same guitar before problems arise. A plug in the soundhole always helps.
