I'd like to know if the Mustang I requires a special power adapter (as well as the different plug/cable, obviously) for use abroad, such as in England, where the voltage is 240v rather than 120v here in the states.

Yes you'd need a 120V to 240V voltage adapter otherwise you're gonna fry your amp - it's the same with all electronic gear that you have to plug somewhere - you're gonna need an adapter. Sometimes some electronic gear is made for, as an example, voltage between 220V and 260V and you can plug it in every country that uses voltage 220V, 230V, 240V,.. you get the drift - but they don't make universal electronic gear which you can plug-in everywhere on the world, no matter the voltage (as far as I know at least) and normally it's specified on the electronic gear (be it amp, hair dryer, tv, computer, etc) which voltages are ok for the electronic gear to be plugged in without an adapter, but I doubt any electronic gear has such a wide span of voltage where it can be used without an adapter, like 120V wide wide span.
In either case - look at the back of your amp under the "Input power" plug and you'll see which voltage is acceptable for the amp without the need of power adapter - mine for instance is from 220V - 240V and in Slovenia there're 230V running through our grid, as well as the frequency of AC (alternating current) which is also important - for instance in Slovenia the frequency of AC is 50 Hz and my amp is made for the market that has either 50 Hz frequency of AC or 60 Hz. All these things are important for your amp to work correctly and safely.
I don't know, maybe you could even plug it into a voltage that's just over the max acceptable voltage for the amp and the damage might not be instantaneous, but rest assured using it for a certain period of time (like a gig) it is going to damage your amp.

I might be wrong, after all I'm still in high school and don't know everything, but I doubt it.

I thought an adapter would likely be necessary. My computer's power supply on the other hand apparently supports variable voltages, and I thought I had read somewhere that the Mustang I supported variable voltages, however that was just before I went to bed so I may have been mistaken in my bleary-eyedness.

Check it on the back panel and you'll see if it's ok :)
