I am still going with the M3, Had one for 3 odd months, I have tried 3 now with different manufacture dates and every one of them has some sort of fizz.

This is not limited to you guys in the USA, I am in Australia, which only means there is a problem with the modelling technology?

Having said that, imo it is the best modelling of Fender Tube amps available at this time..

They use different transformers for us than they do for you in the US, 110v for you, 240v for us, so I dont think power is the problem, it's got to be in the software somewhere.

At the end of the day the Mustangs sound unbelievable at their price point, best non tube amp on the market and I have had the M3 side by side with a DRRI, PRRI, HRDLX.

The 65 Deluxe model is so good!! I have had the 2 side by side and other guitar players thought I was playing thru the real DRRI...

I've been playing for over 30 years now and played live for over 20, always chasing the tone, I used tube, trans, fx this and that.. the last few years of my live playing, which is a few years ago now!! was thru a Line 6 kidney bean Pod straight into the PA.. best consistant night after night tone of my live playing career!!! and the Mustang 3 beats the pod in sound and versatility hands down.

I have a JM sig Strat and a La Cabronita Tele, the La Cab produces a lot more fizz than the strat and it obviously has to do with the output of the pickups. That I think explains why some people can hear the fizz and some dont.

I believe all the Mustangs are probably the same, just depends on what guitar you are using, also depends on your playing environment, sitting here in my bedroom studio just playing the guitar...yeah I hear fizz... jam room, on stage with full band..recorded with all other instruments playing!! dont notice it, but I'm not listening for it when everybody is playing....

Sure I'd like that DRRI and a couple of nice pedals.... but I have had that amp and other tube amps home here in my bedroom studio and guess what... they have their funny little noises too...from just noisy, hissing in general, to vibrating cabinets ... to rattling tubes...you name it , I have heard it...things you dont notice or hear in a live/jam environment, or your recordings when all is done.... and it would cost me about 5 times what the M3 did.

So, in the end I'll probably stay with my M3 cos it sounds great at low volume when my daughter is asleep in her bedroom across the hall and it sounds great live, the versatility it gives me with just the 2 button footswitch it comes with, I dont need to carry a separate overdrive and delay pedal, for the $500 odd it cost me I say if it last 2-3 years it not bad value!!

Sorry for the long post!
Cheers

Did/does your MIII have this kind of fizz?
http://soundcloud.com/user4316001/musta ... range-fizz

I mean, you must be talking about something that is way more subtle than that fizz because I don't see how that's usable for most people. Would you find that usable?

It may very well be that all Mustang's fizz to some degree or other but from the posts on this forum, and others, it's clear that some fizz to a level that can only be called broken.

Maybe you can post some clips of your fizz, that will help clarify your experience.

Hey, apart from the fizz that's an awful nice clean jazz setting, what model is that?

Hi LaCab,

I live in Brisbane and have a Mark IV on order. I bought this amp for the same reasons you have outlined. The pure versatility and sensational modelling, especially of Fender's own breeds.

Like you, I have owned too many valve and solid states and pedal boards that I was just never happy with trying to dial up all of the sounds that you need when playing in a covers band.

One of the things I have always found hard, was trying to get a nice clean sound that would stay that way at volume. Do you find that when you use this live for a clean sound and have to crank it up, it stays true?

I play in a 4 piece, but only 3 piece musically, so as the only guitarist, I need to cut through the mix while keeping it clean when the song requires.

Would appreciate you feedback. I was contemplating the Mark III but wasn't sure if this would be powerful enough in a live situation were we are normally playing at over 100db. But if the Mark IV lives up to my expectations, I will probaly buy a Mark III as a backup for stage use. Always carry a backup.

What did you have your amp settings, preset, etc on thevachieve the fizz? Haventvheard this yet on my M2. That sure is a nasty flangy, sawtooth wave kind of sound.

I had a vibroloux with a loud inherent hum, a Drri and srri with tube and speaker rattle, a deluxe tele with noiseless pups that were noisier than my am standard strat , a house filled with dimmer switches that made all my amps hum. I have unfortunately become immune to noise to some extent. That being said I am not insensitive to those with the fizz problem. I did notice as well that compression, noise gates and certain pups created some fizz but I adjusted the levels and turned my noisy tele in a different direction.

johnjaypl,
No my M3 fizz is not as bad as that clip.
Did anyone notice a reduction in the fizz when they updated from firmware 1.5 to 1.6.4?

My M3 is dated 012011, the latest M3 I tried the other night was dated 052011, I just had a recollection that one still had firmware 1.5, didn't think to update.

8beggars,
I'm not playing live at the moment but I have had the chance to try the M3 loud with other players and I reckon you'll have no problems with a IV for your situation. I can hear some speaker breakup at max but the basic tone is still clean, doubt I'll ever have to have it that loud anyway, get's a bit icepicky as tranny amps tend to real loud, no power tubes to saturate and smooth it out. The advantage you'll have is 2x12, so you probably wont have to drive it as loud to get the volume/fill you require. If you need a bit more just put a mic in front of it and bleed a bit thru the stage monitors/sidefill.
Hope i've been some help! :D

hibiscus ro,
exactly! as I said all amps have some noise and I too dont wish to be insensitive to others with fizz problems, I have them too.
I was just playing my La Cabronita again and  that TV Jones Powertron really brings out the fizz!!!

Cheers

Thanks LaCab,

I am really looking forward to getting this amp and having a decent arsenal of sounds, especially the clean and slightly overdriven sounds that stay true at volume. I am using a 91 USA Strat that I know will sound good through this, but it will be interesting to see how my Gretsch WF sounds as there aren't any real demos online of a Gretsch being played through a Mustang, but I suspect it will come up trumps.

8) Tone heaven :D

I have the Mustang V. If you get 1 or 2 small cabs it may be an option. I use it with a Line 6 V 30 4x12 cab and it sounds great. It's not portable but I'm I love the sound of 4x12's. Some have used 2x12 cabs and liked the portability and option to use different cabs. Besides the stereo effect is better when use separate cabs.It may be more money when you buy different cabs. In fact my cab costs 2X the price of the Mustang V. But it's a great cab that can be used by any head.

Well I hate to admit it, but I was wrong

Yesterday afternoon with a few pints of guinness and I was loving the M3,

today after a full day of recording, listening back to the tracks and all the guitar parts.....fizz!

I'm officially throwing in the towel.....

The M3 as well.

Hi LaCab,

A question. When you were recording your guitar parts, did you have the USB connected to a computer, or were you using a mic on the amp to record.

I don't know if this has been discussed before. But are all you guys having this fizz issue when connected via USB.

Just a thought.

I always use a mic on the speaker, always sounds more organic imo, but I did try the phone out and I got horrible USB noise, dont know if you have experienced this but protools mbox's are renown to cause this. I've been listening over and over what I recorded today...got so upset with it I trashed the whole recording. I'm going amp shopping tomorrow...

It may be too late but it would help if you could share a bit of the recording. The more samples we have the better.
