I acquired a mustang I two days ago. The sound/tone is adequate for my needs.

Despite the adequacy I can't leave well enough alone so I'm thinking of putting in a 10" speaker. With this in mind I pried off the back panel (not easy btw) to see what would fit. I was stunned to see that the circuit boards are mounted directly to the cabinet. There's no chassis and therefore no shielding that I can see. Is there metallic coating on the chassis? The circuit is grounded to the speaker frame. I'm sure that's been done before but I've never seen that in any audio system of any kind that I've owned.

I have a feeling this thing is going to pick up all sorts of RF in some venues.

Could you post some pictures? I'd love to see how it's built but I want to leave mine alone.

The MII is the same way. Surprisingly, I have not had any issues with RF interference and is still quiet after I've turned it into an open back cabinet. I am still going to find a way to put a metal shield underneath it somehow just so I don't have to worry about doing any physical damage to it by accident.

I guess that's one reason why they're so inexpensive. If Fender has found a way to block RF without shielding the circuit then my hat's off to them. I don't see how it can be done but I don't know everything.

Played it live today with no issue. No RF interference or excessive humming at all.

Chassis? We don't got no chassis. We don't need no stinking chassis!
