I should have seen this coming and been more careful. My foot tangled in the 3.5mm stereo cable connecting my iPod to the Aux and ever so slightly cracked the black plastic ring on the input. Everything still works, and I'm contemplating how I can surgically apply some glue to the ring without it dripping into the jack and causing more problems from me.

In the meantime I purchased a retractable cable. This will hopefully
1- keep the extra cable off the floor.
2- provide enough slack thereby keeping the pressure off the connector the next time.

Be careful.

I guess one way to keep the price down one these amps is cheap plastic.

That happened to me too. Only it was the headphone jack, and the ring broke completely off. I tried super gluing it back on but it only held for a few days then broke again.

I can still plug in and the metal recepticle under the plastic is tight enough to hold it in place, so I can live with it. But I did get the 5 year extended warranty from GC. If it becomes a problem I'll get a new amp.

Yeah, me three or four or whatever... Luckily it was within a week or two of purchase, and I lugged it back to GC (where I purchased it) for a replacement. I try not to use it much anymore, and when I do, I now use a short extension which I hope will separate cleanly before doing any damage.

It's nice to know I'm not alone in my clumsiness.

The clumsiness was on Fender's part for not installing a nice, fat, robust 1/4" headphone jack.

That's why I use a really short 1/8 cable for my iPod so it can rest right on the amp. No getting tangled up.

In my case I broke the headphone jack (in this case, having a longer cable would have helped me!); I seriously considered investing in wireless headphones to avoid a repeat performance--if I had a way to manually enable/disable the speaker cut-off switch (a switch for the switch 8) ) it could then just stay plugged in when not being transported.

I found replacement headphone jacks from a store in california.... There are a few parts that will work in the mustangs.

http://www.connect-tech-products.com/in ... Jacks&id=2

The parts are the J-355W-C-I-09 or the J-355W-C-NT that have the same leg configurations, black surrounds, and two switches internally. One to power off the main speaker, and one for the headphones. Check the .pdf files for the information.

If you are handy with a soldering iron, its an easy fix.

Except that the instant you go into your amp, you void ANY warranty you have on it. Some people don't want to do that.

Hmmm, that strikes me as a win-win: if you have a warranty, someone else will fix it; if you don't have a warranty, it's a manageable self-fix. Or is there an issue that fixing this isn't covered by (some) warranties?

yup, me too
It's bad design of the socket - the ring sticks up too much and is easily stressed
Plus a very poor decision on Fender's part
what deoes it save ? 20 cents/pence?

...and then everyone would be complaining about having to use a 1/4" stereo to 1/8" stereo adapter or cable for the AUX, since pretty much all digital media players like iPods use 1/8" as standard.

The 1/4" metal jacks would have been the right way to do it, then fender should have included 2 adaptors that converts 3.5mm to 1/4". The problem is the micro USB. What i am going to do is get a right angle usb cable that will make the cable to be lower than the top of the amp, and will allow the cable to be taped to the cabinet and connected via a regular USB plug to be inserted horizontally rather than vertically. That would avoid strain on the amp fitting itself.
