Just a quick question...

I'm trying to sell my Line 6 Vetta I with foot controller so I can get a Mustang V Head & Cab.

How much better is modelling these days? I won't be able to play the amps in a side by side comparison. I'm hoping that despite the original price points -- $1,600 for Line 6 gear vs. $600 for the Mustang V gear -- that this new amp will still outshine the Vetta...?

Cheers!
Paul

Why exactly are you selling your Vetta? I'm not necessarily a fan of Line 6 gear as a lot of their gear can sound a little too digital - but I've played a Vetta and tonal opinions aside, it's an impressive piece of gear aimed at the upper sector of the market.

I think you would be most unwise to sell it until you've thoroughly tried out the Mustang V rig you have in mind and are certain that it meets not only your needs tonally but that amp functionality and floor controller meets your needs too - because the Mustang amp & 4-pedal unit will not do everything that your Vetta & floor controller does.

For example, the Mustang has no floor operated wah feature, cannot give '2-amps' at once, the amp/FX range is significantly more limited than those available in your Vetta, and the Vetta allows detailed cutomization of amp/multi-FX mixes, signal chains etc. The external outs in the Vetta are way more than the Mustang can offer too.

Don't misunderstand me, I think the Mustangs are fine amps - but the reality is that these are designed and aimed at the mass market at a very competitive price point. The Vetta is significantly more sophisticated, was designed for a much more specific market, and was much more robustly made build & component wise as you would expect for an amp at that much higher price-point.

In car terms you'd be going from a powerful BMW 5 series to a small Ford family hatchback - both good cars, but aimed at entirely different markets/needs/price-points.

Rich

My main issue has always been something that, after reading your reply, makes me think I shouldn't really have been looking for in any such modelling amp.

I am in no way a purist and have always loved Satriani's sound from the Flying in a Blue Dream album. The sustain, the distortion, the wah... love it! And this is something the Vetta has never really delivered on... the sustain.

I thought back and remembered how much I enjoyed the old Digitech models such as the GSP21 Pro/Legend, RP10, RP12, etc.

And so I think it would be more sensible, and far more flexible, for me to get an effects unit that has those things. Maybe an RP1000 in the loop and a Big Bad Wah on the front end.

I'll listen to what the Fender amp sounds like, of course, but in the mean time... thanks for reigning me in :D

Well, my Vetta II head is currently sitting right under my Mustang V.

I could go on and on about what I like in each, but suffice it to say, getting a Mustang didn't make me want to get rid of the Vetta.
