I bought the Mustang IV 2 days ago, previously owned Fender Frontman 212R and with 212R I could easily get a nice, warm drive, not too fuzzy or too distorted to play rock and hard rock (Guns N' Roses, RHCP, Pink Floyd..). Now that I bought Mustang IV I can't seem to be able to get really clean sounds to play acoustic songs like 74 75, Wish You Were Here, etc, I can't seem to be able to loose the crunchy sound - if I do decrease Gain on presets a lot the volume itself goes down a lot too.. So can anyone help me out on how to get really nice, clean sounds, not the clean-crounchy sounds but really, clean-clean sounds?
Also I know the amp is great for playing metal stuff, but I also can't seem to be able to find the right settings to get a warm drive (not overdrive, just drive) that goes well with solo guitar for Sweet Child O' Mine or Californication for example.. So what's the best way to get these kind of sounds with this amp?
I've been searching through the online presets but I spent 2 hours at least and I still haven't found what I'm looking for..
Also I own a Gibson Les Paul studio with humbuckers and was able to get really nice tones off it, but really can't get very clean sounds, nor the drive sounds - overdrive and fuzzy yeah but the nice drive that's used in most of the rock solos - can't seem to get it. Maybe it's just my ear that's still used to the clean and drive sounds from Frontman amp, but I don't think that's the case..

Thanks for help guys

I think the first place to search for a good clean sound would be any of the Twin presets, and then 65 Deluxe or Princeton presets.
If none of the stock presets suit you, start from the basic ones in the last dozen or so presets on the amp. All of these are just the amp models themselves, without any reverb, delay, etc. Adjust and dress it up as you'd like, and you should be good to go.
If you are looking online, go look for the stock Fender presets like Surf Twin or Beauty Clean; those are great places to start with stock presets for a clean sound.

For a driven sound, I'd again start with an amp model you like, and build it from the ground up. There are a couple of presets on Fuse that I've downloaded and modified that might work for you - go look for one called Fumble or A Fumble, or search for presets by a user called Orcatraz. It is an attempt to get close to that smooth sound of a Dumble Overdrive, and it gets pretty close.

Keep tweaking with the stock presets and the basic ones, and I think you'll find what you like. It took me awhile until I was really pleased with the tones I had on my Mustang II.

Thanks for the tip :) I managed to get a very nice clean sound to play stuff like Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Wish You Were Here, Patience and other acoustic songs but I am still struggling to find a good driven sound - can't seem to lose the fuzziness of it. Do you perhaps know if there's a built-in effect that negates the fuzz?
To give you an idea of what kind of driven sound am I looking for - November Rain by Guns N' Roses solo is a good example.. Or the solo of Dogs by Pink Floyd or Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin or Knocking On Heaven's Door by Guns N' Roses, for instance. They are driven, but mostly without any fuzz - and that's what I can't seem to lose on this amp, whenever I get a good driven sound the fuzz ruins it (at least for me).

Thanks for your help.

RE: fuzzies

Have you started messing with the Fuse software? That is really the best way to get to what you want. I think the best option for getting a driven sound you want would be to take whatever amp model you like/want and using Fuse put in an overdrive unit in the effects loop, rather than using a stompbox.
I'd set the gain on the overdrive as low as you can to get the sort of drive that you want; you might even want to try using a compressor as well, also in the effects loop.
I think if you work with this, you'll have better luck.

Yes I tried messing with the Fender Fuse software - it's really great and user-friendly :)
I always put effects pre-amp but I'll definitely try out your suggestion :) Would you also be so kind and explain to me the difference in sound if you put effects pre-amp or in fx loop? :)

Thanks a lot

Pre amp vs effects loop -
Doing this gives you a definite change in tone - effects loop seems to offer a "cleaner" tone (especailly for overdrive) than using the stompboxes. However, with some settings and amp sims, the stompboxes sound great. You just have to experiment.

To give an example - I have a preset I use with the Bassman model and a overdrive pedal that I really like. It's a great tone for solos and rock, really gritty. I tried it using the overdrive in the fx loop, and it sort of lost some of the "guts" of the overdrive. Not a lot, but enough to make a difference.

As they say, your mileage may vary; but try putting things both pre and post and see how that works out.

Thank you CharlesTY, using American 90s model with overdrive in fx loop and vibratone modulation pre-amp I managed to get closer to the driven tone I'm looking for :) Still need some final touches though.. Didn't think that fx loop is so different than putting the effect pre-amp.. Cool stuff :D

EDIT: Just found out that you lose the fuzz even more if you just change cab lol :P it does wonders :)
