Hey folks:

Forgive me if this has been asked many times before. I just got my four-button footswitch for a Mustang III in the mail (after a long wait). One thing I like is that presumably I can set up a nice clean boost on the amp, but I confess that the compressor that allows you to boost has all kinds of knobs, some of which I know little about. I messed around a little, but could not seem to boost the volume without adding more gain. Any suggestions on how best to do that? Will I actually need to "move" the compressor AFTER the preamp to do that successfully? Or can you suggest the most effective way to mess with the compressor to keep it clean? If this won't give me what I'm looking for, any other options? (I suppose I could use the four-button footswitch in the mode where it switches basic amps, so I could have a slightly louder version, but I would really prefer to use the "stomp" to achieve this.

Any tips would be most appreciated.

That's very encouraging... did you have the MF coupon for a free one? I've been waiting for months. I finally sent Fender Customer Relations a message asking about it...anyhow.

That's a great idea... I hadn't thought of that. I'll fiddle around an see if there's a another way to achieve a clean boost with an effect. I wonder about a low gain OD? I haven't experimented with using the OD as a boost. As you mentioned, the comp does seem to add a little gain.

I bought ordered my 4-button switch from sweetwater. Finally arrived yesterday! They had a sale on these a couple months back. Got it for something like $30 or $39. Whatever it was was much cheaper than I had seen elsewhere (though much more expensive than free!)

I did mess a bit with the overdrive setting with gain down low, but didn't like the way it changed my basic tone, and it also seemed to introduce some extra gain, but I might play around with it a little more.

Yeah, using the OD was just an idea... I haven't had a chance to fiddle around with it yet.

You have to connect your amp to the Fuse software, and use the compressor rack effect, which is post gain, as opposed to the compressor pedal effect, which is pre-gain and will add gain to your signal.

Click on the arrows or the empty rack spaces on the right side of the little picture of the amp at the bottom of the screen. A menu will pop up to allow you to select your rack effects. When you select the rack compressor, the compressor pedal will disappear. Save it, and you're good to go.

I know of no way to do this with the LCD display--only with the FUSE software. If there is a way, hopefully someone will tell us.

Indeed... sadly, I'm unable to use fuse but may try and con my girlfriend into loading it onto her laptop one of these days though she's not too keen on the idea. Is it fair to assume that all my presets will change if I update the firmware? I'd be kinda bummed to lose them all but I guess I could always go through and set 'em all up again.

Thanks for the info Cormorant.

Hey Jam Guy,

Updating the firmware will not change any of your presets. If you're concerned about them though, you can always perform a backup using Fender FUSE.

For a clean boost (with adjustable volume) I use a BBE Boosta Grand in the FX loop of my Vox Valvetronix AD120VTX which works very well indeed. It should work equally as well in the FX loop of your M111 (NOTE: It must be in the FX loop , otherwise it will act as a gain boost & add distortion - which is a valid use for it too, but not the same as a clean boost).

Rich
