Sorry, I couldn't resist

So anyway, in light of all the fizz chatter, here's a little jam through my Mustang III (which I thoroughly enjoy), playing my heavily modified FSR strat. I think it sounds great despite some strange clicking sound my camera was picking up... it's not from the amp though, so there's no need to start a "strange click" thread on my behalf.

Sounds great. Though, as a fizz-club member, I'm jealous! Love that orange sparkle finish too.

I checked out your other vids as well -- Nice stuff!

Mind if I ask what amp stand you have the III sitting on? I've been looking for a good one, but the ones I've found the back braces are too short for the open back.

BTW, I dig the red tipped socks (on the other vid). lol

Despite your excellent playing, i don't see why you referred to the fizz problem as you clearly don't have it.
For the people who do have it, it sure is no joke and can not laugh about you not being able to resist...

Schadenfreude
"malicious or smug pleasure taken in somebody else's misfortune"

That's an awesome vocab word, I had to look it up... thanks for keeping me on my toes :)

While I was making a concerted effort to be a wise@**, I certainly feel for anyone who has purchased one of these "bad" amp. Here's the thing though, I have the "fizz" too if I don't noodle with my input levels, use certain presets with different guitars, etc. These amps are fickle little beasts and seem to get along with certain guitars better than others. I hear the fizz terribly sometimes but I'm stuck with it... I have an old mac and can't even update the firmware.

So...why the smarty-pants post? Well, first of all I'm of the opinion that despite the problems some people are having with these amps, they still rock, and they're a heck of a bargain.

Secondly, if you buy one, try it out, and find it not to your liking...you should return it. Period. Complaining about it endlessly or trying to overrun the forum with fizz threads is kinda lame.

And finally, there's a part of me that's just tired of the whining. I'm not saying that every report of fizz is whining, but the Mustang forum is overrun with fizz threads. It's getting kind of old and it seems obvious that Fender isn't going to respond to them. I'd love to see more threads about how people are tweaking their amps to make them sound great! The fumble thread has been fun...as is the recent thread about favorite amp models. Maybe a thread about the sensitivity of input levels which seem to be plaguing many... honestly, it has a lot to do with that fizz and funky decay people are hearing. Finding great sounding, full, clean tones is something you need to experiment with...many of the presets are way to gained out and I think the second set of amp functions (bias, sag, cab, etc) is the secret to getting these amps to sound awesome.

Maybe I should have just left it alone... heck, I'm not a great guitar player but I love to play. I guess I just wanted to show that if you love to play, you can make the best of these amps and even with a crummy little camera, rock the house. My intent was not to belittle anyone... a valid complaint is a valid complaint and that's part of what the forum is about. I'm going to put this one to sleep now... peace out :D

Somehow I had the feeling that this was the case. I was merely pointing out that some might take it as schadenfreude.
Nice playing.

Here is my advice for anyone that is still considering to buy a mustang III or other mustang amps, first let me tell you about my experience with my peavey vypyr 30 that i bought from G.C. about two years ago,i bought one new in the box and when i tried it out at my home it had a bad hum and other noise problems(mainly on the high gain models but also present on some of the clean channels),so i went back to G.C. to return it for another one but i wanted to try it out at the store first, they let me try out two more brand new in the box vypyrs and they both had the hum and noise problems, the manager said i could not try out any more new vypyrs so i checked out a floor model vypyr 30 and it was much better then the other ones i tried out, there was only a little hum on the high gain amp models and it was not too bad and something i could live with so i bought it and i still have it. my advice for the mustang III is ask if you can try a new in the box one out first and if it has the fizz problem ask if you could try another new one until you may find one without the fizz problem,if the store manager will not let you do it try a floor model one out and maybe it will be a good one.

As I understand it, you don't just have or not have the fizz problem. It depends on where you plug the amp in, at least in some cases. That makes it hard to cherry pick.

I do not have the mustang III but i have the mustang I and V and these amps do not have the fizz problem but if you tried out a new mustang III at your music store and it had no fizz problem and then it did have the fizz problem when you brought it home would you say that is still fenders problem? or maybe your house electricity is dirty and it could be causing the fizz problem, just something to think about.

It's still Fender's problem. There are lots of people living in communities with "dirty electricity" with very sophisticated, sensitive and expensive equipment in their project studios that don't suffer from fizz. Ground loops perhaps, but not fizz. I'd bet that there are extremely few places in the developed world with very "clean electricity". It is absolutely Fender's responsibility to make sure that their products can operate using the average "cleanliness" of the electricity provided by power companies. You can't really expect people to rewire their house or demand better electricity from the power company for the sake of a $300.00 guitar amp.
Furthermore, it has not been proven conclusively that it is in fact a sensitivity to electrical noise that is causing the dreaded fizz. Several users have tried UPSs, line conditioners and surge protectors to no avail.

Orcatraz...

I'm getting a bit off topic but I checked out some of your Fuse uploads last night(not actually, but saw that you had a bunch posted) I've got to try and talk my little lady into downloading Fuse onto her laptop so I can update my firmware, and try out some of your presets...I'm especially interested in the fumble one for single coils, though I have some HB equipped guitars as well and that setting might be fun to experiment with also. I am really wanting to try out some of the rack effects tool which are only available for use with Fuse... maybe I should invest in flowers and wine?

HAH! Wine and flowers? Don't be an amateur! She'll suspect something anyway so why not go whole-hog? Invest in something serious... like Artisanal Chocolates!
I'm lucky in that I'm 10 minutes walking distance from this place - http://www.kathryntaylorchocolates.com/
