According to the vote pool on these forums the IV are the least affected by the fizz problem, and if the additional ~100€ (depending on prices in your country) isn't such a problem for you I'd go with IV if I were you - 50W power more with 2x12 instead of 1x12 speakers and 4-button footswitch instead of 2-button are a big bonus. Especially since you play in bars and might need the additional power if you play in a bigger bar and you can't mike the amp.

I got a Mustang 3 for $234 on sale, brand new…and as it turns out, no fizz. I added the 4 button switch for $45. Let me tell you, this thing cranks. I play in a classic rock cover band, in bars, and it’s fine with no mike. I never pass 5.5 on the master volume knob. The sound his huge, rich, and full. I do play with a Les Paul traditional, which does make a difference when I have to bring in the Ibanez ART700. Still sounds great, just a bit muddier with the EMG’s in it. All in all the Mustang 3 is the best investment I’ve made. No more pedals!

My III sounds killer with the Les Paul model on my Variax. Stangs love Pauls.

Totally agree about the volume, I crank mine up to 5 and I easily cover any blues bar around w/out a mic.

I got a III, use a Tele and an Artcore hollow body with humbuckers. No fizz as of yet. Excellent compromise amp. Cranks plenty loud. They claim 100 watts, but I would rate it at closer to 60 real world watts. Or to put it another way, it's a little louder/beefier than my mid sixties Bandmaster, which I rarely got above 5 in most bar situations. If you picture one of those on 10, you have a fair sense of the neighborhood the III can put you in... plus a little bit more. The major advantage is that the III can sound a lot better at 3 than than the Bandmaster ever did ... PLUS the variety of sound choice. This helps with keeping the peace with lead singers, wives, and members of law enforcement.

Big is almost always better, but not when you play Madam Wongs and you gotta shlep it up all of those stairs.

+1 on the 60 tube watts equivalent. That was my take as well. And that's a lot.

The III sounds big, and punchy. It's a good speaker, and a slightly oversized cab that resonates just right, like a BDRI.

Have no fears about gigging with it.

I've got the Mustang III. Very happy with it. Just played an outdoor gig with it and it was fine volume-wise...especially so when mic'd. I have allot of "work" to better understand it's tweakability, but so far I have no regrets. Even the two button footswitch wasn't that limiting, but I do intend to get the four button switch.
