There are two massive threads about the issue but no one reported having the problem with the I or II using the most recent firmware. Do you have one of those with a problem?

Those don't have the issue.

That was the impression I was under. I was actually getting ready to go buy an MII when I read this. Hmmmm......

I have an MII, and it did have a faint, noticeable tail-end distortion (that other topic), but this was fixed with the firmware update that Fender addressed it with.

I do not have this fizz problem (and after listening to the posted example, I am so grateful I don't!...it stopped me from upgrading to the MIII).

To reiterate, my MII has never had this fizz problem...and I love it! It's an excellent amp!

My MII had the fizz problem but it was subsequently fixed by the first software update that was directed at the problem. But ... there were several posts by people with MI's and MII's that said the software update didn't help. My only point is that fizz is fizz ... we don't like it ... and regardless of it's character or it's ultimate cause ... fizz of some sort has shown up in all Mustang models. Personally ... I think there may be more than one cause ... software, hardware or both ... and I'm thinkin' that the models are similar enough to each other that there could be commonalities as to the cause. As to specifics ... beats me ... we're all just speculating (which is natural) ... and we'll continue to do so until Fender comes clean ... which as time passes, I increasingly doubt they will.

I would still really like to be proven wrong by Fender (as opposed to lame attempts to muddy the water by know nothing trolls).

My guess that they are quietly working toward a quiet fix is seeming more and more plausible. And that might not be a bad thing for them and future buyers; products are updated all the time.

It's just that some significant number of early purchasers got noise that they didn't think they were buying and many of them are beyond return to the dealer windows. Warranty returns don't make sense until there is some confidence that you won't get a "pre quiet fix model". Add to that the fact that many non USA buyers have nowhere near a 5 year warranty and it's a poor set of circumstances for many who relied on the Fender reputation for reliable quality as a factor in their decision to purchase a Mustang III.

I have the fizz on the 4... like someone else said.. just below the level your actually playing...

But... it became less of a problem.. when I turned Sag to the far left... and Bias.. the same.... Yes.. you could hear it.. But I noticed it less.... :) Which made me believe a firmware update.. could actually fix it....

@ bborzell

In your quote (16 Jul 2011 00:15) of my message (15 Jul 2011 23:47) the following line was included in your quote ... "I would still really like to be proven wrong by Fender (as opposed to lame attempts to muddy the water by know nothing trolls)."

Read my post ... that statement is clearly not included. All I can assume is that YOU added it because YOU are the one who wrote the response.

YOU SHOULD NOT BE REVISING POSTS MADE BY OTHER PEOPLE AND QUOTING THE RESULT IN AN EFFORT TO FURTHER YOUR AGENDA.

THAT'S BS ... YOU LOW LIFE FREAKIN' JERK ...

Thanks for all the voting and replies. Thanks to the non-fizz votes too. If you aren't having an issue, could you mention what types of pickups you are using?

The two clips posted were both using flatwounds and humbuckers (mine were TV Jones Magnatrons, and the other was probably a PAF-type--guessing) so it occurred to me that maybe there is some kind of input overloading going on with humbuckers. Maybe if the amp is trying to emulate compression and overdrive with the higher input, it is just not working and comes out as non-nice distortion. Just speculating. Worth testing if you have a Mustang.

I had a Mustang III (software v1.5) 'on approval' for 3 weeks - no fizz. Guitars (all stock p/ups except Sheraton) were:

1990 Gibson Les Paul Custom,
2002 PRS Cu24,
1989 Standard US Fender Telecaster,
1969 Fender Strat,
2009 US Standard Fender Strat,
Epiphone Sheraton II with Seymour Duncan SH1 59's

Rich

I took a relatively quick look at the file you sent me. It doesn't seem to me that the humbuckers caused the input to overload, at least not in a major way or for long.

It seems that the fizz comes from what looks more like a compression effect although not a comnpressor that just works on the overvall gain of the input but something more a like a band compressor. What I see is that the higher harmonics seem to get amplified as they try to do their normal thing and die out. This band compressor efect sweeps down in frequency as the the note decays.

I'll make a short youtube clip showing what I see. After that I might look a bit deeper into what's happening with some beter tools that I have but that takes a bit more work.

MIII: Immediately out of the box using a Fender Strat American Deluxe (noiseless SC pickups). No change after firmware update to 1.6.4.

Had tried MII before: fizz out of the box, firmware update to 1.7.4 => no more fizz.

I am going to return the MIII and wait for a couple of weeks whether the problem is fixed.

Too late, but it could've been useful to have separate poll options for no problem with: III, IV, V. You could then see the incidence rate per model. Also the forum doesn't allow multiple votes per person, which could be valid if someone tried multiple amps.

True. There would be an objection to any poll posted i'm sure. My goal was to see if the allegation that "it is only one guy" was true. It isn't. I'm actually surprised at the numbers--many more are affected than i thought, and this is such a small sample of actual owners.
