It seems like there is a question whether or not this issue is widespread. Since i have had it and seen others posting about it, i'm curious how many people own or have owned the amp and had the issue. Please post how long you owned the amp before the problem started: immediately, a few months, etc.

Here are some examples of the fizz. It shows up as artifacts that trail every note, especially lower notes:

Immediately out of the box. Tried three more at a local music store. All three also had the fizz. I would also like to state that I saw a review on Sweetwater that talks about the fizz, and two on Musicians Friend (that have since been removed). You can also go onto jazzguitar.be forums and see others that have reported the same problem.

You might wish to post some parameters such as what amp to set the Mustang on and how to determine if the "fizz" is present so folks can all be on the same page as to when they hear the "fizz". Wouldn't be a bad idea to post those sound clips here too so they know what to listen for.

Just a thought, would be useful to me anyway when I get home for vacation to use this info to see if I have the ailment on my IV or not.

Thanks for the suggestion. The parameters are basically: play sound through the amp. The fizz trails all notes regardless of the model selected. I will add the clips for reference.

o.k., I was under the impression you only heard it clearly on a clean amp playing single notes softly and listening to them decay. I'll just play away then, thanks for the info, hope I'm one of the lucky ones. :)

edit: listened to the clips and that's pretty self evident there's something strange buzzing away there everywhere...........hope they finally fix it or at least say something for you guys with the ailment, let you know in a couple months when I get home how my IV sounds.

I remember reading in the other thread that it was just as pronounced when using overdrive, since it is more like a "digital flanging", rather than an "overdrive".

ps. why in the world are you reading this thread on your vacation!?

My MIII fizz is quite different. You can only hear it on a softly-plucked clean (non-distorted) note when you listen closely to the decay. When you pluck loud it drowns it out. It's still there of course, you just can't hear it. It does not respond to volume dynamics, it's a set volume, so the louder you play, the less you hear it.

So we know have 2 documented fizz types.

Wow, that's bad.

Does is always do that no matter what amp or effects you select? What amp and effects were you using in the demo?

A youtube video showing the setup up etc. might be helpful.

Those don't have the issue.

The setup is: play sound through the amp.

That was the impression I was under. I was actually getting ready to go buy an MII when I read this. Hmmmm......

I'm fairly sure if the firmware is the latest, the III and above are the ones with the issue. I'm off to GC right now to test one out.

So every amp model with no effects has fizz, do I have that right?

A youtube video might still be helpful to getting the problem solved. It seems that very few people read these threads. More exposure of the the problem can only help get it solved.

Can I get a wav file of your first test? I'd be interested in trying to take a look at what's in the sound.

I'm working in Afghanistan, my "vacations" are when I get to go home for 3 to 4 weeks every 6 months. The rest of the time I work 12hrs a day 7 days a week but have alot of downtime at my job allowing me to practice my guitar and read the forums :)

Although current discussions are primarily directed at the MIII (and above) ... the MI and MII had a fizz problem early on ... in which a software upgrade helped for some ... but not for others. Although there is no way to say for sure without Fender's input ... IMO the fizz described in the Digital Aliasing thread and the fizz described in the Obnoxious Tail End Distortion thread are similar enough that they could both be different flavors of the same thing when differences between each Mustang model is considered. I also think one of the objects of the survey should be to identify "all Mustang models" with "all types of fizz". But hey ... it's your survey and what ever response you get will be useful whether the MI and MII are included or not.
