I have a Mustang IV but am wondering if I'm better off with the V and 2 separate speaker cabs for a better stereo spread. Price is a factor since I bought the IV on sale for $400 and the head and cabs will cost a lot more. Any thoughts?

You are really the only one that can answer that question. Is having "stereo" effects on stage really gonna be that important to you? If yes, than bite the bullet and get the V and two cabs. I have a IV and I love it, it is a very full sounding amp. When I got my IV I was really tempted to get the V, but I would have gotten the 4x12 cab that Fender makes, so the stereo effect wouldn't be that noticeable. I may end up getting it down the road.

If price is a major issue, stick with the IV. My IV sounds great on stage and I have gotten several comments about how good it sounds.

Again, until Fender speaks on what I am guessing are the thousands of crappy amps out there, don't buy anything past the II. Chances are that you'll get an unusable amp and they won't say anything about it.

I ended up returning the IV for the V and I'm glad I did. The V sounds great. I love the low end thump that the 4x12 gives you. The cab is not as heavy as mesa cabs. The head is light as well. It is big though but the sound is big as well. The price you pay for hugeness.
Baerashbrewer, I did not notice the problems you were talking about. I was listening for the clean 'fizz' I did not hear it. Let me know if there are other problems you are referring to so I can investigate. Thanks..

Congrats on you V. I haven't had any problems with my IV, it sounds amazing and I couldn't be happier with it.

Thanks. I ended up getting the 1/2 stack instead of 2 separate cabs. The Mustang cab sounded great. I was a bit nervous since I am not familiar with Celestion Rocket speakers. But they sound ok.I do run an eq in the fx loop so it does help tightening things up. Palm mutes sound percussive which why I like 4x12's. I like the percussive sound of amps and I find it hard to get that with open back cabs.
