I was wondering if you can use a Boss RC-2 with the Mustang I Amplifier and if so how would you go about it's setup? :?:

Just like you would do with any amp, plug your guitar into RC-2, another cable from the RC-2 to the Mustang, select a amp preset, press the 'record' option on the RC-2, play, stop, and loop.

So I don't need an effects loop I just plug a cable from gtr to pedal and pedal to amp? And can I change presets while use the pedal? Thanks!

Yep... do you really understand what a looper does?

Yeah, you can, but the recorded phase 'audio-out' will sound like whatever preset you select on the Mustang. Most loopers will use a different effects pedal per loop, like Paul Hanson does here

My Mustang I works just fine with my Boss RC-20xl loopler.
It takes a bit of fiddling with the loopers output levels to not badly overdrive the amp, but once set right it works well.

Yea, a looper is not a sound modifying effects pedal,
so the effects loop is not a good place for it.

Simplest signal path with no sound altering effects.
Instrument/mic -> Looper -> amp input.

In the effects loop, you'd be able to record/loop a chord progression using your "rhythm" preset, then change to your "lead" preset to play over it, no?

Yes, I think it works better with an effects loop.

I don't understand how the looper gets the amp's signal back (for playback) when the unit is placed before the amp? Guitar-->Looper-->Amp ?
No experience with loopers at all. :)

Thanks

It can't.

All the "tracks" recorded in the loop will be subject to the amp model and effects if they come in the front of the amp.

Thanks Pita. That makes sense. So the only way to get the drums and recorded loops from RC2 is to put the unit in the effects loop? Please confirm.

If you just want to play pre-recorded drums and jam tracks then plugging the RC-2 into the aux of a Mustang 1 and the guitar into the amp input is a good way to go. This doesn't let you record additional guitar parts on the loop though. Still, it's a great practice mode.

There are of course other setups that are more useful if you want to overdub on your loops.

An amp with an effects loop is more ideal.

Thats what I was thinking, connecting the RC2 to my Mustang 3 efects loop to get all of the loopers features "live" (overdubing+drums) and soloing over the loops. Can't find much RC2 connectivity tutorials on the net.

Thanks to all.

The RC-2 and almost any other similar unit will work best when used with an effects loop. The MI and MII aren't as well suited for using additional gear as the III - V are.
