I just got a Mustang III for a practice amp and it's been producing a lot of buzz on the higher-gain settings for the rock/metal presets. I'm fairly sure it's not my guitars. Any thoughts?

What pickups are you using? Single coil? Humbucker? P-90? IMHO, hi gain settings are always going to produce more noise. Alternatively maybe your Mustang model allows you to dial in some gating or noise reduction.

I'm using single coil pickups. How do I dial in gating or noise reduction?

Edit: I found it, and it helped quite a bit, but the hum is still very pronounced :/

High gain and buzzing go hand in hand with single coils. If you want to minimize it you have to play at position 2 or 4 but the tone will be a little weird...usually Fenderish Straty quack with high gain do not go well together :)

Just a side note, Lamb of God guitar player does not raise the gain past 6 on an amp. High gain is not mandatory for metal even with brutal riffs like Lamb of God, the secret is in the fingers and in the downtuning/7 strings.

Mmm, thanks. I'm mostly into blues and classic rock anyway, and the MIII is perfect for it. Thanks for the help!
