Just got a Mustang MS2 two-button footswitch for my new Mustang I amp (P/N:0080997000). My question: Do the two buttons allow a total of four presets, two per button or is it just a total of two, one per button or something else? I could not find any relevant support FAQ entries.

Thanks for your help,
Bernie

As far as I know, the Mustang I and II only allow foot-switching between two presets.

Given that this can in fact be achieved with a simple one button footswitch, I'm not sure how the two button switch you have bought will actually operate with the I and II - maybe you can just use one button to make the switch, or maybe each button triggers a single preset - but in any event I don't think you will be able to access more than two on that amp, no matter how the footswitch works.

I agree. The PDF manual is clear about two presets. I just used an old Yamaha switch that I had laying around and it works fine.

Hey Guys,

The MI and MII require a simple, one button, latching footswitch. Many footswitches that fit that description will work.

I just want to ask if this foot controller is compatible with Mustang 1 v.2.

The MS2 footswitch does not work with the Mustang 1 or Mustang 2. The MS2 footswitch is for the Mustang 3, 4 and 5 only. Same is true for the MS4 footswitch.

The Mustang 1 and 2 have their own one-button footswitch. This allows switching between two presets. Here are all the part numbers:

Mustang 3/4/5 MS-2 Two-Button Footswitch: 0080997000
Mustang 3/4/5 MS-4 Four-Button Footswitch: 0080996000
Mustang 1/2 One-Button Footswitch: 0994049000

And for completeness, the ULT4 four-button footswitch is for the GDEC amps. Although it looks (almost) identical to the MS-4, it doesn't fully work with the Mustang amps. Other topics cover the specifics of this more fully.

What would be excellent folks is if there was a two button switch for the Mustang I and II that performed the simple function of preset-up and preset-down, allowing you to scroll through the presets on the amp the way the preset knob already works. BTW I have a Mustang I and I LOVE THIS AMP!! So much value packed into such a small package and with Fender Fuse, well.... I can't say enough good things about it. Thanks Fender!

I dont think that a up/down buttun will work very well. I had a similar solution on the pod that has a different preset memory structure (9 groups of four presets) and it did not work very well. When i used the boss vf-1 that had a huge number of preset i used to run through the setlist with a sequence of preset using a single footswith (so: up->up->up). It was comfortable but was a risk, if you accidentally press the footswitch all the sequence get messed up!

Actually i am using a trick to "expand" the mustang i footswitch capacity.

Many metal songs have a clean intro, then altern riff and solos with two different preset.

I set riff tone on green, solo tone on red and then select manually the clean tone (outside the two preset control, the footswitch led OFF). I play the intro then press the control and go to green for the riff part.

So i can have a third preset in the song.

If i could have full control over 3 preset (OFF->green-red | clean -> rithm -> solo) with this one stomp i will be very happy!

(but consider that now i am a couch player, no more band, no more live performance!)

I would more than happily take the risk of getting "messed up" because with a footswitch that goes "up-down" through the presets it allows you to back up if you click it twice. You can also get the visual of what preset you're on from the LED on the amp and if you were really needing a better visual, you could have a laptop running Fuse where you could see what preset was running in greater detail.

I still vote for the up-down two-button switch because (a) it emulates the action of the preset knob which should be a snap for the Fender engineers creating the switch to figure out and (b) it sure beats switching between two presets!! Finally, it's one HECK of a lot better than turning back to the amp and twisting the preset knob :)

Thanks for listening Fender - you ROCK!
