I bought a Mustang II last week, and I've noticed that when the USB cable is plugged into the amp, random fx changes occur, causing differences in sound, and causing the red "save" button to light up. It sounds like a chorus is being added and then removed from the effect chain every few seconds. It happens when I'm playing, and while the amp is sitting idle.

I am running the latest (1.7.4) firmware.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Hey mw13068,

Try a factory restore. Hold down EXIT while powering the amp on. Keep in mind that this will erase all of your custom Presets.

Yes, I've tried that, but the phenomena still occurs.

I've noticed that while I'm editing a preset in FUSE, a post-amp mod effect blinks briefly on the screen (in the "rack") when it happens.

I wonder if EMI is effecting the USB cable and changing the FX...

Luckily, this doesn't happen when the USB is disconnected. Still a bit annoying, though.

Does Fender FUSE have to be open for this to occur?

No. It happens both in and out of FUSE.

I suppose next I'll experiment to see whether it happens if the other end of the usb is plugged into the computer or not.

I don't see why it would happen with a usb cable just plugged in. Perhaps it could be some kind of RF interference or something. Let me know what you find with just a cable plugged in but not connected to the computer.

My Mustang 1 has been doing the same thing for a while now. The effects (chorus) will randomly turn on while playing. The only thing plugged in, is the guitar cable. Sometimes it will turn on as soon as you start playing. Sometimes it takes a while. I have tried the reset multiple times. Any luck with your amp?? Warranty?? The amp is only 6 months old.

I have confirmed that it does not happen when the USB is plugged only into the amp.

The computer must be causing the noise in the USB cable that is changing the amp settings.
