Yeah it's a kind of odd, dark strangulated sound on the clip. Very midrange, no top end to speak of. An interesting tone, tho.

OK... I hear top end in that sound. I hear the pick as it hits the strings - actually I hear it kind scraping the strings depending how I angle my pick. There's just no buzz and that might be what you're missing. Try using a different cab sim and see what happens. BTW, Robben Ford's sound is all about midrange.

All tones are useful somewhere. Depends on the song. I wouldn't use it much, but I'm sure somebody can make it drop right into a track and sound right. Maybe that's some unique Dumble tone I never heard.

Frankly, the only Dumble I ever encountered was producing Bruce Hornsby, his guitarist Steve I think it was had this guitar slave who brought out all these amps to Smoketree out in Chatsworth. And one of them was a Dumble, but you know, it was just ok. We tried a zillion variations with it but none of them were really standouts. We might have gone with the Dumble in the end, but it was a tossup with several others.

But everybody has different ears, different EQ curves. De gustibus, non est disputandum.
