That Fumble is super dark. I've recorded Dumbles in the studio and they were nothing like that. It's a kind of cool sound, but so dull-sounding it's like there's a pillow over the speaker. Had to immediately go to 60's Sparkle just to clean my ears out.

Never played a Dumble and never heard one live so, I have no clue as to how it's supposed to sound. I do know that this preset sounds fantastically good with p90's loaded with A4's, 300K pots and switchable .022/.033/.047 caps.

Since my main go to guitar has this setup, I don't bother with d/ling others presets as it's just easier to get the sound I want from scratch. Other than the basic hundred and some odd "Fender" presets that come with the amps (for reference), your "Fumble " preset has the distinction of being the only op's preset I use - congradulations!

I'd upload a few of my own presets but, frankly, I have tried them with ceramics in a Tele and a Strat (probably what most players will have) and they sound awful. Don't want to be known as "he who makes stinky presets".

There I go rambling on again... I should just say:

Great preset Orcatraz!

That preset was created using a Strat - a very bright sounding guitar - so of course, on a dark sounding humbucker equipped guitar, the patch will sound very dark. This is especially true with high output pickups. Just like any amp, you have to make adjustments to compensate for your instrument. To expect otherwise is unreasonable. Listen to the clip at the beginning of this thread. If even that's too dark, then you like much brighter guitar sounds than the Fumble will provide. I personally can't stand overly bright and buzzy guitar sounds and am happy that the Mustang has allowed me to create a lead sound I like. One that has lots of sustain with no brittleness and most importantly, the right feel and response to pick attack... for me. I don't expect this preset to be perfect for all guitars and players. Some will like it and some won't and that's ok with me.

Thanks, Dude! What's an A4?

Again, thanks but now I'm curious. What made you download it in the first place?

Hee-hee... "stinky presets"... I've got a few of those!
Glad you're getting what you want from Fumble.

A4 = Alnico 4 magnets.

Swapping out magnets in p90 pickups is incredibly easy - it takes about 15 minutes for 2 pickups and that includes loosening and re-tightening the strings. Each p90 uses a pair of magnets the same size as a Humbucker magnet (the short ones work but the long ones are better).

All this makes experimenting with your sound quite easy. Some people like mismatching magnets such as an A2 and A8 in the bridge pu. Personally, I find the A4s give me the best "all around" sound. But that's just my preference.

What made me d/l the preset? Well, curiosity mostly. I heard the clip and said to my self hmmmm. To be honest, it doesn't sound like your clip with my guitar, I get a more "edgy" sound. I also dialed back the delay just a tad for personal taste but everything else is just as you wrote it. Sonic goodness.

Thanks for the clarification on the A4s.

I think you just touched on something here. I'd always been hesitant to share my patches/presets in the past because of this. A lot of people don't understand that they should not expect any downloaded preset to sound the same, much less exactly the same, for their guitar. There's no way that it can. You obviously understand this and I'm glad to see someone else getting some use out of it. Can you post a clip for me to listen to? Thanks.

Actually I was playing it with my RGX A2 with extremely bright pickups. Very dull, dark tone.

I sure wish I had somewhere I could post it to but the ISP I've had for about 12 year now (Time Warner) just got through discontinuing everybody's personal pages at the beginning of the year - plus they raised the price a dollar a month

I have been looking around for an alternative and found one for $6 ($7?) a month but I need to think up a domain name I can be happy with...

I have some other stuff to share as well, such as a little band track loop player with a tuning standard and BPM > MS calculator I programmed in Python as well as around 20 some odd looping band tracks that I made for myself. The loops are mostly 8, 12 and 16 barre rock blues progressions but there are other things like my own arrangement of St. James Infirmary and a Pop/Fusion thing I did that vamps a Bb diminished riff for 16 barres then moves to F/G#/F/G#7 for 8 before lopping.

Hopefully I'll get another personal site up before to long.

I seem to remember that you often run your guitar's volume control pulled back slightly. Does the the RGX have a treble bleed circuit? If not, it will lose treble when you turn the gain down. Other than that I don't know. Maybe that preset just doesn't work for humbuckers. I really need to check out my own humbucker equipped guitar with that patch and maybe do a version for humbuckers. One more question. Does the clip I posted sound dark to you?

Well, you could always create a temporary one at Soundclick.com or Sound Cloud. Since you're into P90s, I just checked out www.soapbar.com and it's not taken. BTW, the loops sound intriquing.

I could do that but it might take a few days. As it is right now, my plate is pretty full and I only have about 15 minutes or so before I conk out for the night to get on line, check email etc. and no time to play :( . Hopefully thing will ease up here in a few days.

I generally run my volume pot on full. Best S/N and tone.

It's basically an interesting OD tone, when I get a chance I'll try to get in there and de-pillow it some.

Hmmm... yeah, I'm getting more convinced that it's the humbuckers and their wider pickup pattern. They can be icepick bright but still not have that shimmer that single coils have. I think that's what's missing.

I get lots of top end and shimmer from lots of MIII presets, with my RGX A2, especially ones like 60's Sparkle. Its soapbar alnicos aren't like PAFs or anything, they are very "modern" bright. Almost too much so.

Well then maybe you just like much brighter sounds than I do and that's ok. You never did answer my question as whether to you thought the clip I posted was too dark or not. I find 60's Sparkle preset waaay too bright for my Strat and there's not enough sustain - at least not like the sustain I get from Fumble. There's not enough lower midrange body in it for the Strat and too much twang on the bridge pickup. Then again, I find most lead presets, whether factory or user created, to be too bright for my tastes. What some define as a tone with clarity, I define as far too buzzy sounding.
