I was in the process of buying an all tube amp. I have always been a fan of Super reverbs/twins and hi end Marshalls. The only problem, I had only a $400 budget. I decided to settle on a Roland Cube 80 XL. I was ready to purchase it. I then noticed the Mustangs that I had tried a few months before but hated them. I gave it a try and fell in love with it. I could not believe how much different it sounded this time. I realized it had to to be a defective cable/guitar I used at GC a few months before that made all the amps I tried seem weak. I could not believe how real the amp sounded. It was a lot more organic than the Roland Cube. The Roland was real nice and tight and convenient. I did not like that you needed to add 3 ftswitches and limited editing.
I tried all the Mustangs and was considering the III. The III was a lot 'smaller' sounding. I owned a Super Reverb and a Twin at one time and am accustomed to a bigger cab/sound. I found the IV perfect since it had the 2 x 12. SO far I have been loving it. I am looking forward to a Super reverb model. I tried adjusting the twin by using the bassman cab but it was not quite right. If anyone has a patch they developed, let me know?

Congrats! I have an MIV and I absolutely love it. I use the '65 Twin amp and '65 Twin cab for most of my cleans and like the American '90s for dirty leads. I found that in order to get good cleans I needed to turn the gain down and the master up from all of the presets I found. Actually, I used the "Beauty Clean" preset as a starting point for one of my cleans and turned down the gain. I did some other tweaking but I don't remember everything I did.

I suggest getting a 2 button foot switch too, it makes maneuvering around presets a whole lot easier. Welcome to the club!

Thanks. I just got the 2 button ftswtch from zzounds. It took 1 day since I'm in NY.. I do wish it had seperate speaker outs to expand the stereo image with other cabs. I know I could use the effects send into a stereo power amp but that complicates things.

That's fast! Yeah, the stereo really isn't noticeable except thru headphone. The V is a better bet and then using 2 cabs.

Welcome to the mustang club! I played the IV in the store but bought the III because I didn't have an extra $200. I love it though, and the light 36 pounds makes it an awesome portable amp. My other amp is a Crate V33 2-12 which weighs a LOT more.

If you need a little more bite than the twin, try the '65 Deluxe. It seems to work well with my modified American Series Strat. I came accross a setup that has Treble at 6, Mids at 3, Bass at 2, Reverb at 2 ('65 twin spring) Set SAG down and Bias up about 25%. I set input gain just below beginning of breakup with guitar volume at about a 6. Play with Cabinet settings until you get one you like. Add a little sine chorus for effect, and perhaps some simpled compression....Are we having fun yet?

I hardly ever have it hooked up to the internet and my computer, or I would upload it to the FUSE forum. I need to bring it home and play some more.

This amp is very responsive to touch and guitar gain settings, I have never had a tube amp, little alone a solid state one, that is so responsve.

The more you play with the amp and all its settings, the more you will really love it.

Have fun!

Thanks guys. Thanks for the suggestions. I paid $400 since GC was having a hundred $ off sale last week. It's worth way more than that. The size is a bit big but I'm kind of used to it with twins and supers. I'll probably put wheels on it after 30 days in case I have to return it for some reason. My back isn't as good as it used to be. I hooked up my stereo rack eq in fx loop and it screams. I got a Vox wah that I put in front and it's surprisingly good. Surprising in that it's a digital amp somewhat{?}.
