I've been playing my guitar for only 2 weeks, a total noob. I bought this amp at a guitar center, it sounded fine, seemed to be a good deal. I've been playing with it for about a week. And can't figure out how to get a "clean" sound/tone. I had my 1st guitar lesson last night and when i plugged into the teachers Roland amp, the sound was very clean. Can I get that on this amp??

Hope this isn't a dumb question, I just don't need all the pre-set stuff just yet, I thought that I could use it later as I get better.

Thanks in advance for your help/advice.

Start with the '65 Twin amp model and turn off all the effects, except maybe a little reverb. Adjust your gain to a clean (lower) setting then turn up the volume for the preset, not just the amp. This is all easier to do in FUSE. Once you have it where you want it, you can save it to one of the preset ('65 Twin Reverb) slots on the amp.

The great thing about amps with presets like Mustang is how easy it is to get decent tones of most kinds. There are a few good clean tones that come factory presets on the Mustang I, don't do too much altering of them if you're not familiar with what you're doing. Maybe remove the modulation effects (turn the knob as anti-clockwise as it will go and hit save twice to over write) and put no ot little reverb (experiment with which ones you like but keep it minimal). Put the gain quite low too.

On the 1 you should try the top 3, the deluxe, the bassman and the twin reverb which are all clean spunding amps and maybe the British 60s. The others are more distorted ones so I'd leave them alone if I were looking for a clean sound.

Obviously you can tweak the EQ (my only complaint of the Mustang 1 is that you can't adjust he middle, only treble and bass) to sut your needs, it might be a good idea to save three completely different equalisations for each of the clean amps.

Also consider the guitar you're using. Is this through singles or 'buckers? A strat for example wll get better clean tone than some o the heavier humbuckerequiped guitars because of it "Fender Sparkle". Play through a lead singe coil of you have one for the clearist tone and turn your tone knobs quite high.

Most importantly, at this stage focus a lot more on practice than gear and tone. When a beginner has an amp with loads of sounds and effects it is easy for them to get distracted by playing around with them. By all means give some time to explore different sounds from your guitar and amp but your playing ability is more important.

Thanks Diesel. I have an Austin Les Paul style with 2 humbuckers. Yeah, that's why I was trying to get the cleanest sound possible, so I can spend more time practicing, than fooling with the amp. I tried the previous suggestion and it seemed to work pretty well. I'll give your a whirl as well. Thanks again.
