Would really like to get this amp, but I have a few concerns and questions.
1..Master level....Some have complained of distortion etc. when going above 3 or 4.
Is this on just a few units or is it wide spread.
2..USB....when using the usb into computer can you still hear the external cab ?
(If you so desire)
3..EFX loop...Can you use this in addition to the built in effects or does it bypass
the internal effects.
4.. Is there a block diagram available ?
Appreciate your time.

Hi Bud,

1..Master level....Some have complained of distortion etc. when going above 3 or 4.
Is this on just a few units or is it wide spread.
1. There is no distortion issue related to the Master Volume knob that we are aware of.

2..USB....when using the usb into computer can you still hear the external cab ?
(If you so desire)
2. Yes, the USB output and the speakers will output sound at the same time.

3..EFX loop...Can you use this in addition to the built in effects or does it bypass
the internal effects.
3. Both the internal effects and the loop can be used together.

4.. Is there a block diagram available ?
4. We do not have a diagram available at this time.

Please let me know if I can assist further.

Best Regards,

Hey Bud!

You can't beat a Mustang V stack! I've had mine since just about the minute they were first available - I had to buy the speaker cabinet at Guitar Center and I ordered the head from MF. I have had a ball with mine and that sucker can get LOUD! I still haven't hooked it up to the computer, but have done lots of tone modding just through the amp controls. One of these days I'm gonna take this thing out to a gig - but I'm looking for a BIG room!

My son loves the retro look of the amp and says when I die he wants it!

Is the FM412 cab still in production? I don't really like the look of the mustang cab.

This is a FM412 cab.

Hi Bud,

I would not recommend the Fender FM412 cabinet for the Fender Mustang V head. It is a stereo head, and the Fender Mustang cabinet has left/right inputs and is made to work specifically with the head.

As far as the look of the cabinet, I think they match rather well, and look good as a set.

Best Regards,

Thanks for the quick reply. Just to confirm, I tried this cab with a Mustang head, I liked it very much. It was modified by my friend (he added an extra jack and split the speakers to make the cab stereo)

About the aesthetics, I don't really like the modern/pointy nature of the cab. I'm much more of a traditional looking Marshall/Mesa fan myself.

I personally didnt like the looks of the head, but it's grown on me. I'm thinking of covering the head in tweed or something. However, I'm happy with the looks of it in the flesh, and I will certainly wait til it's ragged and torn before I change it.

So are those cabs still in production?

By the way, my regards to the Fender team for making a fantastic amp!

It was modified by my friend (he added an extra jack and split the speakers to make the cab stereo). just make sure each input jack on the back of your modified cab has an 8 ohm impedance,i had to do the same type of modification on my line 6 spider III 4x12 cab and it was a stereo cab,(it made a loud rapid pulsating noise before the modification because it was not wired in true stereo),line 6 cabs have different wiring for there stereo heads.

The people at the store said I could run this head out of the left output into a mono cab. Since it's solid state, isn't this correct?

Also, I'd like to see a matching 2x12 stereo cab offered for this head. Any chance of that?

Hi Superstition_Free,

The Fender Mustang V head is a stereo amp, and is designed to operate with it's custom designed cabinet. Please see the link below for an official statement regarding usage of other cabinets with this head. Thanks.

Thanks Alan Willey. I may yet get that 4x12 Mustang cab, but I'm thinking of modding my 2x12 with 2 8 ohm speakers to run parallel at 4 ohm mono or 8ohm stereo. A 4x12 is usually over kill for what I do. That's why I was asking about the possibility of a Mustang 2x12 option. Thanks again.

Hi Superstition_Free,

You are very welcome. So, if you are going to use a different cabinet, we recommend that you not go below an 8ohm load. We are not offering a 2x12 cabinet mainly because the Fender Mustang IV is a 2x12 amp.

Please let me know if I can assist with anything else.

Best Regards,

I downloaded and updated the firmware into my Mustang V head using the link in the pinned topic at the top of this forum about Firmware.

Mustang III, IV, & V firmware v. 1.6.4
http://support.fender.com/software/fend ... v1.6.4.upd

Yet, now the Help/About Fender Fuse only shows
1.6 (Feb 28 2011)

Why doesn't it show 1.6.4? I could just as well have installed 1.6.0
Thanks
