I have a Mustang IV. I read a lot of other places that an EQ pedal can really make an amp sound so much better. Although I like the sound of my amp, if there is something that can make it sound even better, why not do it?

Is anyone using an EQ pedal with a Mustang, even though you can shape the tone a lot inside of the Mustang already? Does it help a lot? If so I might get a GE-7 EQ pedal used. Thoughts?

Through the FX loop is best, where an EQ will enhance tonal control. An EQ will work differently in front of the amp where it's not so good as it acts more like a gain boost if you raise the level.

In the FX loop it can be good for tightening up bottom end, scooping mids etc. But I think the Mustang sounds pretty good as is and it doesn't need an EQ as much as for example my Vox Valvetronix AD120VTX.

I have the M1 and I did'nt think it made a noticable difference before the amp. M1 does not have an effects loop.

My point precisely - it needs to go through an FX loop. If your amp doesn't have one, the EQ won't be as effective.

I imagine that it depends on how much you are boosting and at what frequencies? A 6 or 7db boost at certain frequencies would surely drive the amp into distortion sooner than no EQ boost.
