So where did the "official" announcement go, it was right here at the top of this forum and it's gone now?
This story really has turned into a soap, shame on Fender.

I just ordered the Mustang IV. Perhaps I made a mistake. It seems like the thing people want is to be able to start out with a crystal clear clean tone, of course, and nobody needs 100 other variations of distortion where 40% of them are annoying unusable metal. Hmmm. Perhaps I should have spend the same $425 (got 15% off at musiciansfriend) on a real, smaller tube amp, and the bought 2 or 3 pedals. Who needs more than 4 tones anyway? Clean, crunch, really crunch, Nirvana sound.

Should I return the Mustang IV and get a real 65 deluxe reverb or something like that? Thanks.

It depends if your amp has the fizz, and even then, it depends on what kind of music you play.

To see if you have the fizz, go to you low E string and play a Bb (or any note on that string around the middle of the neck) by stroking it once with your thumb, and listen as it sustains. If you hear a buzzing sound accompanying the note, then you've got the fizz. When I first heard it I thought it sounded like a damaged speaker, but it's not. Once you know what it sounds like, you'll hear it in many other places on the guitar.

That said, on my amp you can't really hear the fizz when playing--even on the clean models--unless you're playing some quiet jazz or something that requires sustaining low notes.

I brought my Mustang III into the repair shop and was told the next day that Fender doesn't have a fix yet, but that the shop will call me when it does. I guess Fender has stopped blindly replacing amps or power supplies for now. That may be a good sign--an indication that they're giving it a serious look.

OK...I have faith that they're working on it. In the meantime my MIII is useable for what I play. It sounds awesome, is tons of fun to tweak, and if anyone comments on the fizz, I'll just tell them for now that the cab rattles.

If you're ever gigging and I'm at one of your shows I guarantee you I will here more fizzing from the beer in my cup than I will from your amp.

HTFU, really.

Oooooh what i'd give, to have someone pour me a beer that fizzes. Does nobody know how to poor a bloody beer in Australia anymore. Flat lifeless ale that tastes like someone poored it through a tea-towel before it went into the glass and then they have the hide to ask you for $4 for a schooner.

Serioulsy though! Unless you are using a really poorly maintained amp, with no power conditioner, most pissed as a fart punters in an audience, will never hear anything.

I have always maintained, that playing through a little bit of noisy equipment, or doing your own arrangement of a classic song, will not make any difference. Most punters are just out there to hear their fav songs blasted into their drunken faces, so they can yell and scream and dance and fall over and vomit and not remember a bloody thing the next day.

Oooooh how much I love this thing called Rock n' Roll. Bring it on!

Doesn't seem that a common/useful acronym. :)

It highly depends on what you call "alternatives". Here are some affordable modelling amps featuring one 12" speaker and more than 60 watts power :

Behringer V-Ampire LX-112
Beta Aivin GT112
Crate FlexWave FW65
DigiTech Fusion 75XD
Laney Prism 65
Line 6 Spider IV 75
Peavey Vypyr 75
Roland Cube 80XL
Vox VT80+
...

FWIW. Got my MIII today and there is not a single sign of fizz and I'm usually very sensible to this kind of noise. The amp is a fairly recent one (06/20/2011, Firmware 1.6).

I'm really digging this small amp.

Have fun Rome! Your family and friends probably won't see you for a few days and your facial muscles are going to get real sore from all the smiling! 65 deluxe of any of the Fenders, add some sag, some compression up front, gain about 7, volume to suit, then just play with the guitar volume.

I'm more of a '59 Bassman/Brit 60's roots guy myself. But the DR is awesome as well. Best BF cleans in my book.

That LCD is the greatest candy store ever. And that makes FUSE...Willy Wonkaland!

I was curious about that one for months, but it's vaporware so far. Though, if it even becomes real I hope it comes with an FX loop.

Hello and thanks for the suggestion. I've played with the amp some days and this thing is definitely a keeper. The deluxe is really nice but my absolute favorite is the twin. It has a certain vibe to it that i really dig.

Just wondering if anyone has heard any rumors about a fix? My fizz is getting worse with age, and when I brought it in under warranty, the dealer said they were instructed by Fender to return my amp to me until further notice.

I've heard (here on the forum), that Fender is *NOT* repairing these, and considers the FIZZ to be part of the "Mustang Sound".

I don't have the fizz now, but expect it will develop sooner or later...
Definately a good reason to look at other offerings.

Too bad Fender doesn't want to absorb the cost of making this right....
If find it hard to believe that they don't have some fizzy units on hand, and can't determine the root cause of the issue.

It's all about money. They do know where the problem lies and know how expensive it would be to repair all units. The Mustang is the best selling amp right now and Fender's best milking cow. It will be on market for a short period until they launch a new amp product series. It's a shame Leo's original attitude of serving and helping musicians and having fun creating new tools has died at Fender company. Money money money is all they think of (because share owners demand bigger profit all the time).
IMHO!
