My amp has fizz (or that digital-background-noise-with-a-phaser) and the serial starts with CGPK . I don't have the production date.

Checking in after a couple more days with the new MIII, serial CGPLxxx, made 12/2011, firmware 1.10. No fizz like I heard on the amp I swapped back to GC. Especially nice in clean mode and with most distortion setups I've tried so far. Still some inappropriate extra noise over/through some crunchy settings, easiest to hear when close to the amp, and probably part of the emulation attempt I'd guess. Audible with heavier 'rectifier' gain or the fuzz SB but I won't be reaching for those very often anyway.

Aside from that, and several annoying FUSE inconveniences (reported in these forums by many folks) I think the amp is a winner.

Hope this info helps with the quest for fizzless MIIIs. I hear a clear (heh) difference between the amp I returned to the shop and its replacement.

Just an update on my status:

Purchased MIII in early March 2012, so it's been about 1/2 year.

I never looked up my ser#, so no idea when it was made.

So far so good, this amp is a gem when it works right. I could see how it would be a headache when it doesn't, but so far my luck has been good.

Make sure you play the amp good and hard, and check it carefully before the expiration of your return period. If you get the fizz after that, there's nothing you can do because Fender has stated that the fizz is normal for Mustangs III, IV and V.

Best of luck.

Hi All,

This is my first post here. I bought a Fender Mustang III amp today(new in the box) and I must say, I don't hear this "Fizz" you all are talking about.....just my two cents worth. Glad to be here, Mickey Serial # CGPJ 11xxxx also, I have not gone to fender.com to download patches/sounds maybe, just maybe, people have downloaded corrupt patches? Dare I say it....a virus?

Welcome mickey66,

No viruses. :) Mine was straight out of the box, chose a clean amp preset, and I got the sounds that can be heard in the clip in the first post:

Thanks for the welcome! Yeah......mine is brand new although, if, I'm reading the serial # right it was made in 2011. Purchased at GC today 9/6/2012. So far, my amp is "Fizz-Free." That(sound clip) is a weird sound for sure!

First, I have not read all 80 pages of this thread but I have a question. Has anyone got a new one out of the box and have it be ok then, a few days or weeks later it develops this "Fizz" problem?

The Fizz is an enigma for sure.
Just curious, did you do a proper fizz test? Select a clean Fender model, no gain, let a single note ring out on the low e or a string.

When I first read about the fizz here I tried to induce it but couldn't. A few weeks later I tried again and I could. Now its a year later, sometimes its noticeable sometimes its not. But at no time have I ever been able to hear it unless I was specifically looking for it in the prescribed "fizz test". (i.e, it doesn't effect my actual playing of the amp.)

It would seem from reports within this forum, that when the fizz is bad, its real bad. But for most, it will go unnoticed, if it exists.

Best advice I can offer... If it's not noticeable when you play the amp normally, I wouldn't stress about it too much. It's not likely you'll ever notice it even if it does develop later. If you are concerned because you're playing style is mainly clean, smooth, lingering notes -- just make sure you update to the latest firmware (whether or not that helps the fizz problem is unconfirmed, but it can't hurt) and give a good hard listen before your 30 day return expires. If you have any doubts you can still return it.

FWIW, mine sounded really bad straight out of the box, it didn't sound good until I did the firmware update. There was a sound initially that sounded a lot like slappy's youtube clip.

Fizz didn't appear on my MIII until about day 45 following receipt, past the vendor return period, and then it rapidly degraded to unusable for any clean jazz/acoustic work. Fender wouldn't replace on warranty, saying that, "they all do [fizz], or will."

I have talked with a friend of mine who bought a MIII one year ago and he hasn't had any "Fizz" issues as of this posting. This makes one feel uneasy about owning the amp. I love the amp so far and hope I don't get the "Fizz" If, this and other threads like it keep popping up sales, will nose-dive in a hurry.

I feel uneasy about the Mustang III, too. I don't trust it at all. I've been through at least three, and a couple of them sounded fine out of the box and then developed the fizz later on. I am keeping my current Mustang III but will sell it as soon as something better comes along (from Fender). I'm hoping for a "Mustang Pro" line of amps. I'd gladly spend twice as much money for something fizz-free that will hold up through the years instead of this "disposable" line of stuff we have today.
