how did you apply the v1.9 update (there's more than one way)?

1.9 had a huge effect on the V head fizz as well as improving the touch wah!

Well, you're not saying the fizz was eliminated, are you? I notice no difference at all. And nothing has been said by Fender about v1.9 affecting fizz. Their official statement has not been retracted or altered.

Prospective purchasers still need to be made aware that Mustangs III, IV and V may produce a digital artifact under certain conditions that some may find objectionable, which may not become a problem until after the return period has expired, which is not fixable, which is not considered a warranty issue by Fender, and which Fender refuses to address any further as far as we know.

Yes, I am stating that the 1.9 update eliminated the fizz on the V head -- gone. The hum debugger killed the hum. The di box quieted the noisy ground loops within the electrical of this apartment building.

Hello to all...

I got my Mustang III today and of did some fizz-tests of course.
When i use a clean sound with almost zero distortion the fading note (open low E string) sounds good. No fizz or something.

But when i add some gain and do the same test, it sounds pretty strange.
Its like the typical fizz from the youtube or soundcloud examples, but only when the distortion sets in.

I don't know if thats usual. probably that whole fizz thing made me just overcautious...

The Firmware is 1.9 and i used an es335 guitar with a pick.

Any opinions?

if you're not hearing it when clean, it's not fizz. Try playing with the settings for a while, it takes some time to get the hang of the interface.

Turn it to the "BASIC" settings patch in the 90's. Choose a clean amp with no effects. Then play and hold a low A note on the 6th string. Any fizz?

Thanks for the advice. I only messed around with the fender-amp presets so far.
But the 90's model made it pretty obvious. There IS FIZZ on the amp! And it spoils the sound really bad.

It's a pity 'cause the full package is very good. Great speaker, tuner, footswitch, effects, enough power, etc.

But i will send it back and save my money for something else.
Keeping it wouldn't be fair towards my VT30, which sounds even better in my small/medium rooms at home.

Fender should really come out with a redesigned "Fender Mustang Pro" line....

Lucky, can you humor me with a little experiment if you haven't already returned the amp?

I assume you're running MS Windows? If so, please try downloading the firmware from this link ==> http://support.fender.com/software/fend ... g3_1.9.upd

And re-apply the firmware using the FUSE interface ... you will have to choose to manually select the file instead of taking the "bundled" option.

After updating, please try the same patch and settings and let us know if it sounds any different? Even if you already applied the same exact update ....

Okay, i've installed the update manually.
--> Still the same fizzy noise in the fading clean notes. I'm sorry.

The only solution is playing with headphones.
I don't believe fender can fix it with a simple software update. They have to change or redesign some parts of the faulty circuit diagram I guess.

But hey, this won't ever happen 'cause its a minor defect, expensive to fix, and most customers are happy with their mustangs anyway...
Or can you proof it otherwise, fender? (I work for an electronics company b.t.w.)

Lucky or jwoertz, what preset number was this?

Is it:

Preset #98 , Basic 90s Stack
American90s

Check out the list of presets that use the American90s amp model:

USA Death Metal
Europa
Swedish Metal
New School Shred
Far Beyond Driven
MSG lead
Puppet Master
Down Laid
American90sChorus
Basic 90s Stack

This might not be the best amp model to test a clean sound with. : /

Strings, thats true.
It simulates a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. Not well known for clean playing, but you're still allowed to try it. ;-)

Did some experiments today and i think the very clean, bright sounds are fine. But when you go for the muddy blues-tones with lots of bass it starts to fizz. No matter which amp you choose. To be fair, sometimes you have to listen very, very carefully to notice it.

I think another problem is, that the amp is simply overpowered for practicing at home. If you could turn up the master a bit, the fizz would be eliminated too.

What I found in my case is, with higher gain, the "fizz" is actually noise that's normally suppressed when the gate is closed--so it starts off sounding dead silent, and when you pluck a note, that starts off much louder than the background noise and masks it; but, as the plucked note fades, the relative volume of the noise increases and you hear the trailing buzz becoming dominant. Try turning off the gate on the basic American 90s and see if you hear the constant hum, and see if it actually changes at all when you pluck notes.

If you can pluck with, say, the basic Twin (gate is off by default, as a matter of fact), and you don't hear any strange noises, then I'd say you aren't suffering from any fizz.

PITA

I found two issues cause fizz on cleans and buzz on high gain: 1) Noise entering the Mustang guitar input or effects return input. So, I eliminated the noise going into the Mustang signal chain by using silent and clear GLynch cables, a Hum Debugger pedal, and a di-box w/ a ground loop and an XLR converter for computer and line-out recordings, the di-box is not necessary when using a cab only. And, 2) There was gain and signal chain routing issues in the Mustang DPS software that were resolved with the 1.9 update, but the trade-off was substantially less gain (where the fizz and buzz was on high gain) and I noticed a reduction in the bass and lower mid-range (where a lot of the fizz was on the cleans).

...there should be an automated reply that pops-up every time a Mustang thread starts off with "USB" "fizz", "buzz", or "noise" -- do the 1.9 update, but change back to the pre 1.9 Fuse software and Silverlight 4, get; quiet quality cables, a hum debugger, a di box w/ a ground loop switch and an XLR converter for recording through an interface, get a quality interface (the on-board Mustang USB interface is useless due to noise and inferior 16-bit, 44 Hz output, plus it's a one way interface that doesn't work well with *any* other audio application).

This pop-up message could be used when somebody turns on their amp and logs on to Fuse to save them a lot of time and hassle experimenting only to find...they need specific stuff to use the Mustang!
