This fizz issue is totally bringing me down. I'm all ready to pull the trigger on buying either a III or a IV, but now I'm worried that I'll encounter the fizz and be sorry about my purchase.

IMO you have good reason to be cautious. Personally I wouldn't risk it.

Well, I suppose you are right. I was looking for a good integrated alternative to my Pod HD500. I guess I will hang on to it for now to see what their new DT25 amp sells for and sounds like. But the Mustang IV would have been a heck of a lot cheaper and perhaps provide a more solid rendition of the Fender amps.

The DT25 combo will sell for around $700. Amazing-sounding amp. Blows away many boutiques for thousands more.

The dt25 and mustang are completely different beasts, from the couple of vids I reviewed. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9E2eXXwW28
I wouldn't be too concerned about the mustangs. Just buy from a dealer with return privs, or shop a local merchant and buy one you find satisfactory.

Well, as the original poster to this thread, which took over 10,000 views before fender gave back "a response," as lackluster it was, I have to say that I am through with the Mustang. Fizz has become worse and can't stand it anymore. Getting rid of it. Picked up a Fender Deluxe Reverb. All I can say is this: WOW. While the Mustang is like a souped-up Honda Civic that can do 0-60 in 7 seconds, a real amp, once you get back to one (especially a deluxe) feels like a REAL ford mustang. We're talking a crotch-rocket bike VS. a Harley.

Fender, still making good amps, and the Mustang is a good value, but when someone calls and asks if the Fizz is fixable, just say no. Don't hide like a sally, just man up and say it.

So before you do, I'm curious. What happens if you do a factory reset to the as-shipped condition with all stock presets? You'll probably want to do that anyway if you're going to sell it. Fizz or no fizz?

You said: I was looking for a good integrated alternative to my Pod HD500. I would buy a stereo rack type 75w per channel or higher power amp and get a 4x12 cab to go with it,then you can run your Pod HD500 into this setup, you can find the power amp for about 100.00 and up and you should be able to get a new 4x12 cab for about 250.00. I think a setup like this would sound good and you will have better sounding effects with your Pod HD500,the effects in the mustang are not really that good in my opinion, the reverbs could be much better.

Although I read about the fizz problem in this forum, I took a chance and got a MIII. It's manufacturing date is July 2011 and I have used it for one week without any fizz (yet?). Let's cross fingers it still works OK. It's a great amp for the price, but if it fizzes then for sure I'm never buying Fender products again.

Thanks for reporting. A rather new production date. I wonder if they might've fixed something by that time, though probably more likely since August or September. Who knows...

Add me to the list of frustrated Mustang III owners. I have brand new Schecter PT and Mustang III. The digital artifacts are unbearable. This thing is pure garbage the way it is now. I plug my guitar into ANYTHING else and it sounds fine.

OK guys, what am I going to do? Exchange the Mustang III, return it and get something else (need built-in effects), or just wait it out with the expectation that Fender will fix this mess? I can't live with the fizziness. It's horrible.

I don't think Fender can fix this. I think they buy the technology from outside sources, and this is the state of the art. Modeling algorithms + 100 watts solid state amplification = fizz.

If there was any possibility that it was going to be fixed, we would have heard something by now.

If it's any consolation, I have played this amp live in a noisy venue on fizzy settings, and the fizz was not noticeable. However at home, or if I were to bring it to a quiet venue--it becomes a real problem. It's not like hum or hiss which is constant. It rises and falls with your notes, and becomes a real distraction to both you and your audience.

It's an inexpensive amp, and it's just not going to be a main gigging amp for everyone.

I'm just glad I still have my tube amp and pedals.

What happened to the firmware updates that fixed the fizz? I have 1.8 and there is no fix in there for sure. I remember reading about one of the prior updates fixing the fizz. No? Seriously, this is just beyond comprehension, how Fender could release this amp with these issues. Inexpensive or not, this is really, really bad.
