Amp back from repairs, did not fizz for 2 weeks and it's back again on full force.

Problem permanently solved: Mustang III sold to less discerning player on kijiji.

Me buying myself a wonderful Jet City JCA100H :) Gonna rock the casba with a...ok not so clean amp I concur...but what a wonderful tone AND FIZZ FREE :D

I bid farewell to those who were friendly and actually had a useful discussion. I will not be back on the Fender amp forums since I will not be buying another Fender gear ever again. I just cannot support a company that does not support their product and manages to insult their customers by taking them for idiots in an official statement.

@ Musicmaster2

Not trying to be rude here ... but since it was vassago66 who had an out of spec power supply that was replaced under warranty ... see ... viewtopic.php?f=27&t=59288&p=715115#p715115
... and the fix evidently didn't work ... I'd recommend you not push the power supply fix theory any longer.

There has been a lot of speculation as to the cause of the fizz in this group. To date, none have been proven correct based on the content of the forum discussion.

IMO ... until such time Fender announces the cause and/or a fix ... prospective buyers should pass over the Mustang and buy something else.

Well, you certainly took the correct steps as a consumer to protect your interests, and no argument here about your conclusions about Fender. They treated their customer base like behelmeted short busers.

The modern corporation is not your friend.

Yep ... +1

So where did the "official" announcement go, it was right here at the top of this forum and it's gone now?
This story really has turned into a soap, shame on Fender.

Thanks, but why has it dropped to page 2 all of a sudden, isn't it sticky anymore like it was in the beginning?

We know it WAS in fact the power supply that solved the problem. What we don't know is: Are we dealing with an entire run of faulty power supplies that fail very quickly or is there a secondary external electrical factor in the circuit damaging the nominally ok power supplies?

@ Musicmaster2

What is your PROOF that the fizz is caused by the power supply?

From what I've seen in this forum ... other than vassago66's experience ... no one has produced one single shred of EVIDENCE that a problem with the power supply is the CAUSE of the fizz.

I'm not saying you're wrong ... but IMO you're hanging your hat on a conclusion you have made which is based on virtually no evidence.

I'm still scratching my head on how it could be a power supply when the problem only exists on III, IV, and V and not on the I and II. I still like to look at the two differences between the two groups. I and II have higher firmware versions and no LCD screens. III, IV, and V have lower firmware and LCD screens. Deductive reasoning points to one or both of those differences. Unless the power supplies are difference for the III, IV and V?

The difference is also in the watts they deliver.
The III, IV and V deliver 100 watt or 150 watt as for the I and II they are only 20 and 40 watt.
Sure you need a different power supply as it has to supply substantial more power to get those watts going.
It seems plausible to me.

Because the fizz stopped 100% dead after the power supply was replaced. Not rocket science.

@Musicmaster2

No ... not rocket science ... it's wishful thinking ...

And the fizz came back 2 weeks later. Sure ... they coulda replaced a bad power supply with a bad power supply ... but it's only ONE report. IMO ... one report is not enough evidence for the basis of your conclusion.

I just ordered the Mustang IV. Perhaps I made a mistake. It seems like the thing people want is to be able to start out with a crystal clear clean tone, of course, and nobody needs 100 other variations of distortion where 40% of them are annoying unusable metal. Hmmm. Perhaps I should have spend the same $425 (got 15% off at musiciansfriend) on a real, smaller tube amp, and the bought 2 or 3 pedals. Who needs more than 4 tones anyway? Clean, crunch, really crunch, Nirvana sound.

Should I return the Mustang IV and get a real 65 deluxe reverb or something like that? Thanks.

Yes

Erm, if you can find a 65 Deluxe and 2 or 3 pedals for $425 let me know who the sucker is selling them. Thanks.

Bottom line, you are not going to find a more versatile amp with as many great sounding tones for as little money as the Mustang amps. Give it a chance, if you find you don't like it, then return it.
