I have a Mustang III that developed major fizz issues, it was not like that when I got it, I mean as in "my tone deaf wife" (nothing mean here, it's just true :) ) could here it over the notes I play.

I bought a Monster HT700 power bar with clean power 1, 35$ in clearance sale...: The fizz is gone.

I'll try it. Going to the store tomorrow.

EDIT: I've already tried so much, but I am also going to try the following, it's cheap, and if it doesn't work, I can use it on a mixer that I have that needs something like this anyways. I'll let you all know if it works.

http://www.amazon.com/Monster-MP-AV-200 ... 259&sr=1-8

That's a cheap enough fix, if it does in fact work. I've been following these threads and holding out trading my Mustang I for the III.

There is a thread over at the Vox forum about a decaying "hiss" coming out of the New VT40+.

http://www.voxamps.com/forum/topic.php?id=3716

18 pages sounding not at all unlike what's been posted about the Mustang III.

Must be something in the water.

That whole thread is eerily similar to what we're seeing with the Mustang III. Here's a sample of the "trailing hiss" afflicting the Vox VT/VT+ amps:

http://www.valvetronix.net/forums/examp ... t3912.html

One interesting discovery from the Vox forums is that some of their users have resolved the issue by cleaning plug sockets and other connectors, including the speaker connectors. Others have reported that whacking their amps temporarily resolved the problem, but that cleaning connectors resolved it permanently. Perhaps loose or improper connectors are an issue with the Mustang III as well? Perhaps simply moving the Mustang III jostles something ever so slightly, which is what really makes it work at other locations?

Here's a post on some maintenance items for the Vox VT/VT+ amps:

http://www.valvetronix.net/forums/maint ... -t141.html

I know some people have opened up their amps for speaker replacements, mods, etc. Has anyone tried cleaning and/or re-seating connectors?

Very interesting. I haven't received the "clean power" thing by Monster cable in the mail yet, but once I do, I'll let you all know. I feel like this is something that should have been built-in to the amplifier.

One quick update after two days of intensive use of a clean power power bar, the fizz is almost gone, you have to listen very carefully to hear it with the exception of playing in the vicinity of the 9th-11th fret (standard tuning) on the low E, A and somewhat the D string where it becomes more obvious, but still, a cranked Princeton has more hiss than the Mustang III has fizz at this point.

Has a test I tried an MXR 10 band EQ in the fx loop and cut the second last fader by 3db the last by 6db, it did not make any difference what so ever...I am starting to think the speaker is crap and picks up anything around it, I was expecting the fizz to disappear with the EQ treble cut., it did not. Sadly I don't have a speaker laying around to test it and this would require soldering and for sure invalidating my warranty so, me not testing that until we get any answer from Fender...

This is highly unlikely. Speakers do not produce sound, they can only reproduce sound. It is completely incapable of "picking up anything around it". More likely, it's the power amplifier. Although they too are designed to only reproduce sound, they are more than fully capable of producing unwanted sound and noise. The speaker is only reproducing signals the power amp gives it.

A little disconcerting that a new version of FUSE/firmware appears with very little guidance as to what the new firmware actually does/fixes. What about posting a proper change-log ?

Also seems a pity that the usually very helpful Loren is able to chip in on a number of other threads here while apparently carefully avoiding the one that relates to the III issue.

I currently own a II and I am seriously thinking about an upgrade to a III, but its not likely to happen until Fender make some statement about these issues.

I just don't see myself in a music store asking to test every III they have to see if they 'fizz'.

well I was hoping 3 times would be a charm for me but I just got my third mustang III after sending back two and the fizz is still there :( . It's definitely not as bad as the first one I got and would be ok for distortion at louder volumes but 90% of what i play is clean bedroom volume. I'm give up on it for now and will check back again in a year to see if it's straightened out. My bet is it's a hardware problem and they can't fix it short of recalling thousands of amps, but hopefully I'm totally wrong.

I hope this "fizz" problem will be solved soon... so I can buy a Mustang III or IV.
Are there settings on which it is easy to hear it and so identify buggy amps ?

1. pick a basic clean amp model (ie. Deluxe Reverb)
2. play guitar
3. cry

Yeah, this is a big disappointment for me too.

I actually upgraded to the III from the II after about 2 weeks - and something didn't seem right with the III as soon as I began using it. I can't swap it out again now.. but at least there is a common issue that we are experience and hopefully there will be a response from Fender.
