Turned out the interference came from the display and what's the main difference between the III,IV & V and the I & II Mustang amps, yes the display.
Just a hunch :?

INTERESTING! Too bad there isn't a way to turn the display off.

EDIT: Would this have anything to do with why you can't hear it on the headphone or USB jack?

Again i'm just guessing here but it's obvious headphones need less power and therefor will use a different electronic circuit.
Maybe the electronic curcuit used for driving the speaker is to close to the display and concequently picks up interference from the display.
If this would be really the case (and i say IF) then shielding would probably be the answer but that would be bad news for Fender because they had to do a recall, no way it could be fixed with a firmware update.
But as i said, i'm speculating here on this subject but i think it's plausible.

Well, if it's that, and I mighyt be able to do it myself (voiding the warranty, of course) I'd might just do it myself so I can have what would be a kick-ass amp.

Excellent observation Henky, displaying good capacity in scientific method and logic in deduction and I'm peeved off that I didn't think of it myself :( compliments.Whether it's the source of the problem can only be discovered by turning the display off or moving it away from the "power amp". Who's gonna be first to do it?
cheers all

I’m on my 2nd MIII, both have the “fizz” problem, through the speaker only, not the headphones and sounds exactly like the sound clip. It didn’t bother me at first, but the more I play it, it seems that I’m always listening for it. Drives me nuts. The store where I bought it has a two week return policy and I have one week left to decide if I want to keep it.

A couple questions:

Both my MIII’s were manufactured in 11/2010, like many others that’s had the problem. It was recommended (in another string) to look for a unit manufactured in 2011. Can anyone with a unit manufactured in 2011 confirm that they have the problem? If it looks like the 2011 units are okay, I’ll return it and hunt for a newer unit.

This is my first Fender purchase and seems like Fender has a good reputation. However I, like many others, would like to hear something from Fender. If I knew it was a firmware issue and a fix was on the way, no problem, I’d keep it and wait for the update. But if I keep it and it turns out to be a hardware issue, will I be able to return it to a service center for repair or am I stuck with it???

My apologies. I spent 4 hours last night researching this and might have missed your post among the 17 pages on the other thread. I am glad that we are honing in on the symptoms and I would like to urge more people with the problem (such as you) to weigh-in and get involved in the discussion. The more apparent that the problem is affecting a great number of consumers, the more likely Fender will make it a priority to fix.

With that said, if Fender can acknowledge the problem, even if they don't have a fix yet, it would put many of us at ease. The silence is a bit troubling.

Well said. It would be very helpful if Fender posted a sticky response at the top of the forum with an acknowledgement of what they know/believe about the problem or problems and some status on their efforts to fix it. The forum seems like a great way to communicate about this type of thing and Fender customers shouldn't have to spend 4 hours researching a known problem. If Fender doesn't think this is a real probem they can say that too. But silence?

John

I can confirm that I have the problem and the date on mine is 02 2011.

Sorry to bear bad news.

If it was possible to turn off the display, and have the noise go away, and there was only a hardware fix, I would be fine with Fender at at least updating the firmware to give us a two-button display "Kill-swtich" or something. Like holding down the "Amp" and "Stomp" keys to turn the display on and off. That would be better than just being "Stuck with It".

We might be getting ahead of ourselves, though. Doesnt' it seem like Fender would have heard this noise? That is what is making me the most confused.

They could add in a delay to make the display go to "sleep" as well. When you adjust something the display turns on, then after a few seconds of not doing anything it turns back off again. Not a perfect solution for people gigging, but probably good enough for us hobbyists.

If that were actually the issue, that is.

So... just for clarity, you guys are experiencing this "fizz" with the noise gate turned off right?

Doesn't matter either way. You can use the most basic amp model w/ no effects. It is always there.
