AHA! What about this little riddle?

How come when I hook my MP3 player up to it there is no noise? It must have to be strictly in the modeling area. That is not to say that it has to do with the LCD screen, but still, little fishy?

I'm still skeptical about those who have taken it back to the store and couldn't hear it. Instrument dealers tend to be very noisy. I tried one at the music store, and could barely hear it because of the background music, people talking, people playing instruments, etc. But I could hear it, the dealer couldn't, or claimed he couldn't.

Besides, still, I have tried my amp at so many different places, with all sorts of powering options, some powering options that any good venue or studio would use. And the fact, that it didn't even change the quality of the fizz, let alone get rid of it, really, really makes me skeptical.

Besides, same point as before, if other amps don't have the problem, why should this one. Also, not to mention the guy on the other thread that sent his amp back 4 times and had the same problem every time.

I don't know though, if we only knew for certain what the problem is.

Well, I was thinking that a lot of music stores like GC have small rooms where you can check out the higher end guitars and amps. I figured you could ask to take the amp in there to check it out. I'm not saying the the dealer won't deny that it's there. If they do, ask for your money back and don't buy anything more from them. I'm also not saying that this is a power issue (though I can't definitively rule that out), but that it may well be any and all of the posited ideas. There's really no way to know until Fender decides to fully participate in this issue.

One thing to consider and I wonder if it's a practical option for everyone, is if your Mustang III still qualifies for the vendor's return policy, why not return it and get the Mustang II?
Here's my reasoning;
1) It won't have the fizz.
2) While it has "only" 40 watts, it's pretty loud and I doubt that the MIII is really twice as loud - measurably, as in, provable with an SPL meter. Even if it is, who cares? The MII mics up beautifully and the MIII's 100 watts still have to push air with exactly the same 12" speaker. The laws of physics says, it can only be marginally louder.
3) Claims that the MIII has a "better" speaker is completely debatable. It simply has a known speaker brand and that, practically speaking, don't mean squat. It just means that the speaker being used has a particular type of sound. The Mustangs are modeling amplifiers and will better reproduce the differing models if the speaker does not impart its own sound. I actually think that the MII's speaker might be better at this than the more expensive MIII's.
4) If enough people start bringing back their MIIIs to buy MIIs, maybe it'll finally get Fender's attention.
5) Even though the MIII is more convenient to edit, that quality is completely negated by the fizz.
6) The MIIs are lighter and have no fizz.

I'm sure Fender is aware of and is monitoring this thread. I just wish they'd say something. Even if it's just to acknowledge their customers' concerns.

O.

Okay everyone, here it is.

Please note: this is at a low volume, with a clean sound, a bassy guitar.

EDIT: can anyone else confirm that they are getting the same sound?

Nice playing, baerashbrewer. I started to get a little..."Misty" but the fizz ruined the mood. Really though, nice playing.

Thanks. I apologize for the mistakes, but was concentrating on the fizz. I thought that I would play a song so people could here that it you can hear it during actual playing.

can anyone else confirm that they are getting the same sound?

Way to narrow down the suspects, baerashbrewer!

Earlier in this thread, I talked about A/D converters and their need for Low Pass Filters in order to avoid aliasing. If some of these amps have a faulty or non-functioning LPF, they will suffer from aliasing.

baerashbrewer, if I may ask, what was the tone control setting on your guitar when you recorded that clip? If it was full up, could you please try it again with the tone control rolled all the way back (no treble - all bass). Please indulge me - I have an idea...
Thanks.

That was with the tone control around 3 on a hollow-body gibson. Pretty close to dropping a lot of treble.

It's not so much that the noise changes when roll the tone all the way to ten. However, the recording was intended to really highlight the noise.

EDIT: Pretty close to same settings when I play jazz.

RATS! I was hoping that with the treble fully rolled off, we could kind of use the tone control as a very very crude LPF to test a theory. Oh well, guess I was just barking at the moon... again.

I can't play the clip. Do I need to join the page before it will let me play it?
I click on the play button and nothing happens.

Sound cloud is running a bit slow. Wait for it to load (you have to wait for the whole thing to buffer, I don't know why) and then press play. You'll see it being highlighted as it buffers.

Anyone who can't confirm the sound should take up needle point instead of electric guitar.

That's pretty painful. Not the playing, the fizzy artifacts, I mean. If anyone from Fender listens to this recording, they would have to be pulling their hair out trying to track down why such an otherwise fine product seems to have this significant wart.

I mean, can anyone else confirm that they are getting the same sound? I'll edit my post. Your response made me laugh though. Also, I sent a direct message to Loren with a link to the soundcloud file.
