I'll look for the "Empty" upload online. Would LOVE it if indeed it's an uncolored, no amp model patch. It's one of the very few things missing on my Mustang IV.

At first reading the thread I thought, "Why?" Upon further reading I understand you want to just use the Mustang as an interface and a D/I with the ability to use the Amplitube software and mix and match after the fact. This, in theory, is not a bad idea. I have tried using Amplitube in the past before I owned a Mustang III. It is a bit of a DSP hog even with a fast computer. I have been recording with a computer since 2002 and with a 4 track cassette and DAT for 10 years before that. My suggestion is go out and buy something like an M-audio Fast Track (for like 50 bucks) and it has a D/I input. Or just commit to a sound you like on the Mustang Amp and record that. Really, I don't like the direct USB sound or the Fender ASIO. I broke down and bought a separate interface and microphone ( a Sennheiser 608 but a sure SM 57 is fine too) and record my Mustang III live that way. NOTHING beats an amp close miked and turned up loud. There are plenty of reasons to want to record another way but trust me, you won't be happy until you do the way I just described and you won't settle for less after you have. Your workflow will improve drastically by just committing to a good guitar sound and going back to process the sound or simply re recording tracks you don't like the sound of. Just trying to spare you the pain that I have been thru. This is a very old issue by this time. If you haven't heard of it, I suggest you get a subscription to Tape Op magazine. It's free and you get it every other month at www.tapeop.com. Welcome to the world of computer audio!

A model-free patch hopefully will also be useful for gigging as well as recording. I haven't tried the Empty patch yet, but will be happy if an acoustic plugged in, it will faithfully produce the guitar's tone on its own. You can tweak other models and cabs til the cows come home and it's still not as good as it can be, say through a PA.

You can spend thirty five bucks on a cheap D/I and go into any PA....again, why would you need a mustang for that?

Well, in a word, Variax. Colorless tone needed for the acoustic models, and the Mustang models for the electric models.

There has also been talk here of being able to set the amps to an 'empty' setting that bypasses all modelling including the basic amp starting point.

Yes, I uploaded one such (called "Empty") not too long ago, for those seeking to truly bypass all amp models.

As FFXIhealer noted, I found that the volume is pretty much the only "amp" control that works, and of course it is relatively quiet. It is of course possible to add effects and build on it too, if desired.

I finally got around to trying out my Variax acoustic models with this "Empty" patch PITA uploaded. Pretty nice! It shows that Fender CAN come up with colorless full frequency patch. This one is not quite there, but it is miles closer to an "unmodeled" sound than any other model I've tweaked around with. The volume and the cab selections are the only controls and yes it's weaker than other models, but I'm grateful for the PITA patch, thank you! Now maybe Fender can build on it to add some more functionality? Listening Fender?

That is cool! I didn't envision many uses besides possibly reamping (didn't know how it would sound with an acoustic since I don't currently have one). Can it be improved with some stomp (post amp slot) used primarily for EQ tweaking?

Anyway, glad you found it somewhat useful.

I currently run my Variax through a POD HD500 to a colorless keyboard amp with great results and the POD's where I can add some EQ and some boost and then onto the Mustang to help the shortcomings in volume and tone. Kind of overkill using the POD to go the Mustang, both modeling gear, but they both have their pluses, and the Empty patch should allow me to use the POD for amp modeling and effects that it excels in. Oh, the power of buttons and knobs :)
