Does anyone know if an overdrive pedal works well with the mustang 2, like if you want to distort some of the clean settings, kinda like a real tube amp. I am just wondering if anyone has any experiance with this and can give me a good overview of what works (if anything), and what brands they use. Thanks so much.

Hi bodiex1.

Keep in mind that the Mustang is a digital modeling amplifier and as such has an analog to digital converter. Those things do not sound good when they're distorting. Up to a point, you can induce some overdrive into a clean amp model but only if that preset is already near the breakup point. If you try to get it to distort while it's at its cleanest setting, you might start to overload the A/D converter and that won't sound good at all.

Maybe the best option is to get the factory footswitch that switches between 2 presets or to sell the mustang and get a tube amp.

Well, both will have their compromises.

I use a behringer to800 overdrive pedal into the input jack on my mustang v and it sounds real good with it,i use it on preset 20(i forgot the original preset name but it was a fender clean amp model that i have edited),i also have a mustang I and my to800 sounds good with it too,the behringer overdrive sounds better than the fender overdrive in fuse.i would not hesitate to use any stompbox type overdrive pedal with your mustang, just try one out for yourself.

I have a behringer od300 overdrive/distortion pedal on the way. I know its kind of a cheaper pedal, but I've heard demos, and it sounds pretty good. I really don't want to sell the mustang, I like it. The fuse software is awesome. Hopefully this pedal will give me what I'm looking for. I'll probably end up getting the footswitch as well, but I'm like most people, on a tight budget, and trying to get the best bang for my buck, you know.

If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can just build one. It's not hard and I think it's kinda fun. I hacked an old Roland momentary contact footwitch by drilling a hole in it, putting in a metal push on/push off switch, soldered in a 1/4" cable and presto - new footswitch. Works great.

Got my overdrive pedal in, and I LOVE it. It does exactly what I was wanting it to do. I am impressed and pleased.

It does sound better to my ears, and you can experiment with the tone so much too, I really like it, I wasn't expecting much for a $24.00 pedal, but I'm impressed. :D

Hi everybody, I just got my mustang 2 and has a digital modeler I was thinking if it takes the overdrive pedals and distortion well. I've got a digitech bad monkey, its an exelent pedal by the way, and mustang is a good amp I dont want to put it on sale but I want to be able to use pedals as well. I plugged in the pedal and it was too distorted for my taste, I just adjust the clean setting with very low gain in the amp and I think it was a good sound. I did my own foot switch but I will fight to not use it I want PEDALS haha. But please give more opinions just if you use overdrive or other pedals into mustang 2.

Have used a Bad Monkey, OCD and Zen Drive. They all sound good. Just don't overload the front end of the amp.
