I was a little bored and decided to take some old pedals out of their boxes. So out comes a cheap Behringer 7 band Eq pedal. So to pass the time i connected it to the Mustang IV and wow. With all the sliders set in the middle it was heaven. It real fattened up the sound, giving it juice. I love my mustang, it sounds more realistic then my Boss GT-10. But some sounds are on the sterile side(yes yes, its an amp modeller and not a tube amp). But by just adding the Eq it made a world of difference. More sparkle, more oomph, more everything! And unfortunately, more hiss :( but i just turned up the noise gate and away we went.

The Eq pedal also helped tame my crybaby wah which would get a bit shrill at the toe end of the pedal travel.

Double plus!

So now i'm just experimenting with different slider positions but i tend to always go back to the everything flat position.

Enjoy!

Good idea, I might give that a shot. But the whole reason I got the Mustang was to avoid pedals! Arrggghhh.

Did you run it direct in, or through the loop?

I ran it direct. Haven't tried the loop yet, i only have one y split cable to use with the stereo effects loop so far(the shop i got it from only had one). So i guess that if i don't go through both loops at the same time i wouldn't be able to tell 100% what the effect of the eq would be on the sound through the loop because it would only be coming through one speaker instead of both. Or am i wrong?

I also leave the pedal on top of the amp, so the only pedals on the floor are the 4 and 2 button foot switches and the wah.

Put it through the FX loop - world of difference!!

The 3 pedals I have in the FX loop of my Vox Valvetronix AD120VTX, in order, are:

Behringer EQ700 > BBE Boosta Grand > BBE Sonic Stomp Maximiser

Image

The Boosta Grand is excellent in letting me set exactly how much clean volume boost I need for lead solos at the turn of a knob.

Rich

I've been using a Boss GE-7 for the past three years like this. It's essentially a clean boost. I don't need to use it on my high output guitars (those that have humbuckers for example) but I have it on for the single coil guitars with all amps I have (both tubes and SS).

I also have a GT-10 that just sits in storage now...

I finally got around to putting the Eq into the effects loop, and wow! It does make a world of difference! I actually have two Behringer Eq700's and now i use the one in the loop and the other infront of the amp to use as a boost. You can definitely hear the difference between putting the eq in the loop and infront of the amp!

And my GT-10 is also collecting dust since get the Mustang. I could never program an authentic 3D type sound from the GT-10 as i get from the mustang. The amp sims on the GT-10 sound paper thin and lifeless. So i gave up after a while, and bam! Mustang arrives to save the day!

Told you! :D In the FX loop it's acting as a clean EQ - in front of the amp its a gain boost - raise the level & & it will distort

SirPaddy, why don't you run your boss gt-10 through the effects loop of your mustang, just turn your amp modeling off in your gt-10 and you can use it's eq and effects with your mustang,i still use my boss gt-3 in another amp setup with my digitech gnx3 and also my korg ax1500g going through the effects loop of my gt-3 and then into the return input of my laney gh120 solid state head with my marshall 4x12 and i get great tones with this setup.i also have the mustang I and V,i did not try my gt-3 through the effects loop of my mustang V yet but i can tell you many of the effects sound better in my gt-3 compared to the effects in my mustang V,so your gt-10 should sound even better with your mustang because it is bosses newer model.

While it sounds fine adding an EQ, I'm not finding it make that much of a difference to need to do it. JMO. I have a DOD FX40. Adding the speaker output jack still seems the most satisfying thing you can do to the MI IMO.

@ Metalman50: I have tried putting my Gt-10 into the effects loop. Even used the 4 cable method, but i gave up(maybe a little to eaily;)
A found that i needed to find the sweet spot regarding the send and return levels, but also the input levels of the gt-10. When i used a overdrive pedal from the gt-10 infront of the amp it sounded shrill and very unpleasant. I need to find a input and global eq setting that allows a tranparent signal. So when i plug the gt-10 in without an fx, it would sound the same as when the guitar goes straight into the amp. At the moment i need to dail back the input signal and work a bit with the global eq because it sounds a bit muddy.
The bad thing is that i also wanted the mustang as a pick up and go amp with everything i need, just take a wah and guitar with. But now trying to add the gt-10 as well and having to take that along too seems like a bit of a mission. "i seem very lazy right now, don't i :D "
But i'm still going to try getting that sweet spot in the gt-10 settings.

I also have a ME-50 that i put in front of the amp as well to get some overdrive and effects, as well as the wah, and that also gave me some really nice sounds. Especially the FAT setting in the tone modify section that i can use a fs5u to turn on and off. Been trying to get the same sound as that out of the Behringer, just not quite there yet. The Eq pedal adds sparkle, and the FAT setting is very smooth sounding.
