Hello,I just got a Mustang I and have had zero luck getting it to record in Ableton,or even in the freeware program Kristal Waver I have used in the past.I have downloaded the driver and Ableton recognizes that the amp is hooked up and I have done the walk through for setting the Audio up correctly, but I must still be missing something.Whenever I arm a track for recording the green meter that reads incoming audio just barely has a sliver of green. Then when I hit record and get going, nothing records in the window when I play my guitar.

I have used the help feature here and on Ableton's forum, and got alot of tips that I tried out,but none of them solved my problem, but then again I didn't find one that was exactly the same as my issue either.

I tried the troubleshooting walkthrough here on Fender's site, and it read to download the Fender ASIO driver and make sure it was recognized,or something to that affect.Well,I did and still no sound or recording, but you gave no steps after that one if that one wasn't the problem.

If anyone can shed some light on this for me it would be greatly appreciated. Before I come off sounding as a disgruntled buyer, that is far from the case.I absolutely love this little amp.I can't believe how good the sounds coming out of it are for how inexpensive it is.It is just what I needed for bedroom playing.Once I figure out how to record with it it will be perfect for my needs. My issue is with the software, which in my technologically challenged state of mind could be an error wholly on my part.

Could you tell what your OS is (Windows/MAC)?

2 little tips which might help you:

1) Make sure the Mustang recording device is enabled.
In Windows 7 the lesser used devices are disabled by default but you can enable them.
Right click on the Speakers icon in your Notification Area and select Recording Devices.
Next in the Window which opens, right click and select the option Show Disabled Devices.
Select the recording device/s and Enable it.

2) Your Mustang can only send audio but not receive it therefor you need another device for monitoring.
Not every DAW can setup 2 different devices for input and output and that's where the Fender universal ASIO comes in, it serves as a kind of bridge between your DAW and the actual input and output.
This means you have to configure the Fender universal ASIO and tell it which input and output it should use and you have to configure your DAW so it uses the Fender universal ASIO as audio interface.
However the Fender universal ASIO is not really a good piece of software and not stable at all (it will cause Cubase to crash randomly f.e.).
I find ASIO4ALL to be a good alternative, it has much better latency values and never ever did it let my Cubase crash.

Thanks for the reply.I am currently running Windows XP service pack 3 on a Dell laptop about 6 or so years old.

I have tried those different tips and still nothing. The one I didn't though was ASIO4All.I have that downloaded and used it for Kristal Waver which I have used in the past.I can uninstall the Fender ASIO driver and use ASIO4All instead?I can try that maybe and see how that works.

It sounds like you may need to disable the inputs on the other audio devices in the ASIO driver panel. You can do that by clicking the "power button" icon next to each device that's labeled as an input. You may have to click the + symbol next to each device to make sure you got all of them. The Mustang should be the only input device enabled.

After a few days of wrangling with a Mustang V and Ableton with no luck getting Ableton to pickup a signal from the USB cable, I finally discovered that the Fender ASIO had to be reinstalled after the rest of the software was installed. After the re-install, with all the correct settings (including turning off the outputs of another sound device, a TASCAM USB interface), it worked.

What threw me was the ASIO worked for everything else. Had the ASIO not worked for anything or everything else, I'd have un-installed and re-installed it sooner.

...I'm glad the amp arrived 3-days early. Now, I'm only 1-day behind schedule!

Hi,

@ ROD..looks like ABLETON are not able/willing to help what ??? :)

I went through many workaround.Still have same problem. No recording/ no imput of my amp into Ableton.

I Have to disable the system sound ( win 7 .64 bit )
i need to stop and deactivate windows audio service ( each time Computer need restart ) :-((
To be able to ear ableton at all.otherwise: no way

I de-installed ASIO. and re-installed it. Still same: mustang available and Active. No record
a Yellow ? on HD audio imput ( wich i deactivetd ) No record
i deactivated ALL I/O except HD audio out. No record

All Step made correctly to record on a audio track.

I loss many time trying to get that working. Obviously is a real pure coincidence if that work.i will try to de-instal FENDER ASIO and use ASIO for ALL. As last attempt.

I think, if that cant work....i trash that :-)...no recording. Finally im playing gitarre for the gitarre , not to loose my time with immature stuff for free.Im still thinking about FENDER as a real good maker. The Software issues, create in my mind a bad thing about fender, since ableton is not helping at all.I know now, many buyers really disapointed about that fact. Sorry, but IT IS .-)

I wish good luck and all the best to ALL Fender Mustang users.Sincerelly.
For my part , i m close to give up.

KEEP ROCK ON !!!

I've said it a couple of times now and i say it again:
How much i love my Mustang and i do think the amp models really shine, even FUSE is working great and a treat to work with, but the audio interface is where they screwed up and it just s***s.
Sorry i have to say this but the audio interface is nearly useless.
If we can get it to work, which is a pain in the $@!, it still is only one way (no monitoring of the signal coming from your DAW using your headphones plugged into the amp).
OK maybe i'm expecting to much for the given price but as it is they could have left the audio interface out.

@ henky

Hi, well, i see here a second problem aswell : ABLETON forum, and support is NOT a help at ALL.

The Fender forum help much more ( Miss Howard, and other moderator are more willing to help then ABLETON! ) Reminder : ABLETON is a third party software.

AS we got it fro free, ABLETON wont help, so in my mind trying to make ppl upgrading to LIVE or at least INTRO..NOT FOR FREE .-) in this case , maybe we could get support.

I noticed that as soon as some1 talk about LIVE LITE....none answer anymore.LOL

Like you Henky, i love my amp ( since Monday is mine mine mine mine mine :-)))))

But ABLETON is a mess, and is no help to wait from that compagny.
The fact i saw : Many have problem ( well , the most ) and if they get that running ...nobody know exactly why.....and if its not running : they use other stuff..or give up. ( like me )

and NO..im not gonna BUY a other LIVE version .-) ( this is for ableton ppl , if they read that ) :D :D :D

HAND u guys

Keep ROCK ON

It's not ABLETON, it's the Fender ASIO driver that's causing the problem.
My main DAW is Cubase and problems were the same.
Now ABLETON maybe a free goody but IMHO the Fender audio interface should work flawlessly.

@RodC

Forget that pain. Make it easy to work:

Buy a good mic, ( shure or sennheiser) for 50 bucks.

Use the mic imput of your soundcard. Record with NERO or whatever wave editor. If REALLY needed u can use LIVE LITE to remix your record. DONE!

Easy, fast, and IT WORKS.No extra driver needed, no pain.
on YOUTUBE u can get tons of videos showing you how to do. its easy.

HAND

KEEP ROCK ON

Sorry Henky,
:)
is not really true. OTHER generic drivers are not working, ( for ex : ASIO for all )

And, if that was ONLY a FENDER ASIO problem ..NONE would get it working, but some guys got it working, even , ALL setting meet from PC to PC , many ppl cannot get it working.i repeat : even all settings are made as it should.

AS many ppl posted on ableton , using LIVE or INTRO ( wich are not for free ) and told about problem with recording from many different instrument ( using different ASIO ) i think its a problem with both..but : ABLETON give answer to those "buyers " . Like i said before: FENDER forum moderator help more with this then ableton do.

For my part, i will record a different way and spare the pain and this time consuming ....hm....stuff. ( damn i polite here ) :D
btw, earlier , you couldnt get a PC to work, no software, no usb and so forth..what did we do ? yes... MIC !!! and it was working. ORANGE AMP..Strato or whatever...That is making music .-)...so... back to the roots....ROCK ON

HAND

It's the Mustang soundcarddriver AND the Fender universal ASIO these are 2 seperate drivers working together.
The Fender universal ASIO is the second part, first you got to make sure the Mustang input soundcarddriver is enabled that's why it won't work with any other generic ASIO driver like ASIO4ALL.
For some reason not active inputs are disabled by default in windows.
You have to go to input sound devices in windows and right click and select "show disabled devices" then you can enable it.
Ones you done that the next step is to configure the generic ASIO driver and it does not really matter which one.

Now this should all be not necessary and it should work right out of the box...

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond back, but i have been offline all week.

I have tried all these things and then some and still have no luck.I can record if I use only the Fender Asio, but cannot monitor through the Ableton. When I playback after recording I have to disable the Fender Asio and enable ASIO4All as the output. When I try to make Fender the input and ASIO4All the output it won't let me.I get a litlle yellow mark and the description reads either my driver is too old/new,that all inputs not in use should be disabled,or that computers hate me,which I'm inclined to agree with.

I
