I'm wanting a great bedroom amp, I was thinking of the Mustang V, but it may be overkill, I don't mind spending extra for a Mustang V as compared to a Mustang III, but I'm thinking a Mustang III may be all I need. I only need it for a small room at low volumes. $600 is about my limit. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I also want to use it for recording, I'll probably get a POD HD desktop soon for recording, any suggestions for recording equipment are welcome, I'm thinking of about $1K total for an amp and home recording (guitar only) through a computer.

Thank you,
Dave 8)

In a small room a Mustang II might even do the trick. I have a II, and it is plenty loud enough for home playing, but sometimes I do wish that I'd gone for the III just to have the option of more oomph for the odd time that I do play out, for maybe a better overall tone (better speaker in the III than in the II) and certainly for access to all the main tone editing functions on the amp itself rather than only through FUSE, which is an obvious limitation of the II.

The IV or V would seem like overkill just for home playing and recording. Maybe better to spend the difference on some good quality recording gear. The other $700 would certainly get you a very decent audio interace and recording software.

Mustang V, $299.00 (comes w/ 4-button foot pedal)
Alesis M1Active 320 USB speakers, $99.00
TASCAM US 144MKII USB interface, $129.00
Sony wireless headphones, $99.00

$626.00!

And this system will be everything you need for a bedroom. If you get good enough to play for pay, throw a cab on it -- you won't be wanting for tone or volume with the V. And, if you need to consume less space (small stage), (read this today) use floor monitor boxes with guitar speakers in them, point them towards you, mic the floor monitors into the PA -- done. You've covered your bedroom, a small venue, and any other sized venue unless you are playing something like...Madison Square Garden!

I have both the mustang I and V,the mustang V in my opinion would not be a good choice for your bedroom because it has to be at a higher volume to sound good and it will cost you more money than the other mustang models that would be better choice for your bedroom,i use the mustang I for my bedroom practice amp and it sounds good at lower volumes(good also at higher volumes) and will not be too loud for your neighbors or anyone in your house,it also has the usb port so you can record into your computer, with the extra money you would save buying a MI or even a MII it can be used to buy a good DAW recording studio for your computer.

Thanks for the great comments, this is what I'm considering at this time:

Fender Mustang III
Boss BR-800

For a bedroom a mustang 1 is all you need. Anything bigger is going to be overkill. I have a mustang one is a large apartment and i never turn it up more then 4 on the volume.

The LCD screen in the III is a Big Deal. Who wants to fire up FUSE everytime you want to go after a sound?

I have my perfect setup for jamming with friends. Variax 300 & Mustang III. Great combination to go any direction at any time. One guitar, one amp, one cable, done. Acoustic sounds good. Strat sounds good. Heck even the sitar sounds pretty good. Plus more connections with the FX loop for additional possibilities. Not heavy but heavy by comparison to the MI.

If volume is your concern then go with the MI. Plenty loud enough for home. Sounds the same through the headphones anyway. If fullness of sound is your concern, and editing on the fly then go with the MIII. However, if you have a computer at home you can leave it hooked up to fuse and have a much bigger screen than the LCD on the MIII for less. For what you are doing now the MI sounds like a much better deal, if you have a computer, but gear is not typically sold for current need it is sold based on dreams of the future.

Good Luck,

III us fine for a small room.

I or II would also be fine if your CPU is in your room and you don't mind using Fuse all the time, OR if you're someone who doesn't tweak much after they've found the tones they stick with. A lot of people tweak and eventually settle into their go-to tones and rarely touch the settings after that.

I'd go III. I have a IV and I sometimes play pretty low, but I can still get some great tones out of it. Having the LCD display is nice as well as the 12" Celestion, a built in tuner and an FX loop.

+1. It's kind of scary how many hours I can burn exploring all the wondrous sonic possibilities of my V300/MIII combo. This much fun has gotta be illegal in at least a few states.
