Hi fellas,

I just picked up a M3 two days ago and have been trying to determine the best way to record this amp. I had a PodXT for the longest time but I bought the M3 to replace it as I wanted an amp that sounded good to my ears, which the Mustang certainly does, plus an interface. I have an M-Audio Firewire 410 so I can either use the USB on the Mustang and have it as two mono inputs (two sep channels) and use the M-Audio ad the output device or use the headphone stereo out to a split cable into left and right of the M-Audio.

The recordings I have done so far don't sound all that great from the headphone out. I think the USB out sounds less fizzy, especially on the high gain models. I still have yet to try just mic'ing the amp which I'll get to in short order.

Below is a link to a clip with me playing guitar to a backing track of Keep on Rocking in the Free World. I used the USB out of the M3 to capture the source sound. I added no post-production coloring to this. This is just the original backing track with my guitar playing on two separate tracks (L +R) then just rendered to 320kbp/s MP3.

I'm not looking for critiques on my playing but on the actual sound of the guitar as recorded through this amp. I think the amp sounds fantastic and I just to use the best method to get that amazing sound recorded.

You can click on the image below to play the clip.

Hey, that sounds great!

Any tips on getting the ASIO driver to recognise the Msutand amp? I accomplished this on my Windows XP machine but my higher powered Windows 7 pc is vexing me.

Nevermind, may have found the answer from another thread:

"If you have Realtek on-board sound you're outa luck too ... it's not ASIO compatible."

My step-son found out that adding a new sound card can not only make apps like Ableton work better, but also speed up your gaming online, if you use your computer for that! We had to format and re-install Windows on his desktop, and couldn't find the driver for the onboard audio, so he popped in an old SoundBlaster Audigy card he had laying around, and now everything works better and faster!

A tip that may help those who want to record!
