I just need some opinions on both amps.I was talking to someone who said line 6 has been doing digital longer then fender so he would go that way.I kinda like the fender because to me it seems simpler.Line 6 has 500+ pre-sets and so much more.Overkill?I kinda think so.Would I ever use them all, probably not.But on the other hand kinda nice to have all of them too.I'm sooooo confused.Help me if you can.Thanks.

Well to me, it all depends on the style of music you like to play. If you're old school like me, the Mustangs are untouchable. If you play metal, you may like the Line6 units better. The Mustangs and Fender amps in general are not what most metal players gravitate towards but by the same token, I don't think Line6 really understands what the Fender sound and feel is all about.

Remember.... don't judge either amp by the presets that are pre-programmed into them at the factory. The real beauty of my MIII are the presets I can program MYSELF by adjusting all the different parameters, including EQ, Gain, Speaker Cabinets, Sag & Bias, noise gate, and all the rest. It is a whole new ball game when you leave the factory presets behind, or build upon them yourself.

I suspect the Line 6 is the same.

Makes it a little harder to decide, but you have to do some fiddling with the knobs to evaluate the sound of the amps. You will also discover how easy or difficult each amp may be, and which method suits your particular preferences. For me, I loved the MIII. I love it even more now that my 4 button footswitch has arrived!

Metal = Spider as Line 6 are good at metal models.
Anything else requiring touch, feel, response & quality of modeling - Mustang kills it stone dead! It's not even close - the Mustang is different class.

End of story!

I am into blues, alternative and classic rock mostly but I like all music in some way.I like that fender has all of the classic amp models on it.How many effects can you use on the mustang at one time?

To me, that's exactly the area where Line 6's models fall apart.

Too digital, too 'cold' - lacking in feel, warmth & response

The mustang has that warmth? How about for alternative and classic rock?

They "fall apart" in that the feel of the amp models are all wrong. No bloom, no sponginess and the attack is so abrupt it feels like a high gain metal amp with the gain knob turned way down. It's clean yes, but completely lifeless and doesn't really respond to your picking dynamics - very static. Some of the Line 6 models can get the basic tonality right they feel horrible to play. It's also quite difficult to get a medium gain sound that isn't too buzzy and harsh. The sustain characteristics are also terrible at lower gain settings. You'd think that using the compressor module would help but nope, they feel just as bad. Like I said, I just don't think they get it. It's not in their DNA. I really believe that their main focus is on high gain amps. To me they don't work at all for classic rock.

Too digital, too 'cold' - lacking in feel, warmth & response. this is the reason i bought my mustang v head,i use it with my line 6 spider 4x12 cab(my mustang v sounds good with it),when i used my line 6 spider II hd75 head with this cab it did sound digital cold and harsh sounding on the metal and insane channels but the clean fender channel sounded pretty good it had some warmth and was not too digital sounding, when i first bought the line 6 hd75 head it was at the grand opening of my local guitar center and the hd75 was going through a marshall 4x12 cab and it sounded good to me at the time and the price was right only 129.99.i guess line 6 did not improve too much on the spider IV since the spider II?i still see good reviews of the spider IV amps and they seem to be top sellers at musicians friend and guitar center, anyone have any thoughts on why the spider IV ranks so high?

Spiders are easy for the shredder wannabes to dial in a tone that sounds good to them, mainly at bedroom volumes. For those serious enough to want to gig, the tones get nasty at a decent volume.

I am a begginer/intermidiate player and want to use it mainly for practice but I also am looking down the road when I can jam with others and maybe play a gig.Can I use one of these for now and then move up to something else when I have more experience?Which one do I go with?I am still confused.

If you go with a III, IV or V, you won't have to move up. The III is reasonable enough for a starter, yet big enough to gig. Also, it's easier to control from the amp. With the I & II, you really need to use FUSE to get the most out of them!
