Hi, I'm new and I'm sorry if this is a repeat post topic... I did search several ways but didn't find a thread that covered this.

I have a brand-new Mustang II amp, installed Fuse 2.2.0 and ran it, whereupon it asked me to update the firmware on my amp. tried "bundled" and it failed. downloaded what looked like the latest from the downloads page, 1.6.0 firmware, but that failed. Then I started searching the firmware topic here in the community and found a post stating the 1.7.4 firmware had been released. I downloaded that and tried it as well. All attempts to update the firmware fail, usually in the first 10% of the update, the 1.7.4 doesn't fail until the progress bar is almost halfway updated.

Searched instructions, downloaded manuals, searched here in the forums and the instructions on how to get out of the firmware update loop are simply to turn off and on the amplifier again. Unfortunately, every time I turn the amp back on, it's in Firmware Update mode. I can't seem to get past this loop to even try out my new amp.

Any suggestions?

My Gear:
mac mini running os x 10.6.7
fuse software version 2.2.0 for mac
firmware update file version 1.7.4

I would think if the USB cable is disconnected from the amp on startup, it should function normally without entering the firmware upgrade path. If not, you could try an amp firmware reset and see. That may at least get you some playing time to decide if you want to invest more time debugging the computer connection.

If even that doesn't work, I would be considering an exchange if I suspected a bad unit.

Probably worth reaching out to Fender support directly as well, they may be able to get you going with some 1:1 troubleshooting (you could try contacting any of the moderators listed for this board).

Hello,

I had the exact same problem when I first purchased my MII ... My problem turned out to be that the USB ports were not 2.0. Anyway, try installing FUSE on a newer PC if you have one available. I actually used a MAC to flash the firmware, but have since determined that the USB ports were at fault. Note that the PC's with the older USB ports could be use to run FUSE, but not to flash firmware.

Hey guys thx cor the feedback... turns out i think it was z faulty usb connection... enough connected that it was seen by my computer but not enough for the firmware epdate if thats possible. i tried moving it from where it was to the office computer, and when i went to replug the usb, the socket had moved/jiggered around so as to be inCcessible and hidden from the hole. I was able to exchange it for a replacement. (saga unrelated to previous posts) now i just have to commit to a location for the amp... bedroom computer i assume will work. but the office pc is so old im having to swallow every ugly "important" xp update that i was able to avoid previously...

ahhh well. y'know? when i do get up and running with that usb connection i can see ill be spending countless hours in search of that elusive perfect tone!

I'm making progress but still working on it. Thank you for asking!

I ended up moving the amp back into the bedroom where the mac is, which got me going and able to use the amp while I still work on updating the old pc.

I'm really loving the amp, but I do find that some of the options and commands seem kind of hidden... i watched several "how to do preset" videos, and searched and read threads, but ultimately getting the amp set up in such a way I didn't have to do it again every time I turned on the amp meant finding the "save preset to amp" command which is only available when you right-click on a downloadable preset in the correct type of viewing window. And, I think I've got it figured out now, but assigning which spot the download goes into was also a little hairy to identify the procedure for.

It would be real helpful if the quickstart guide included instructions on how to actually save it to your amp.

It sounds like you need the manual for Fender FUSE. The quick start guide only covers the amplifiers operation standalone.
